Beauty Tips
- Well-moisturized skin is the best palette for makeup. Get on a good skin care regimen 2-3 months before the big day. The more time your skin has to adjust to skincare changes, the better.
- Choose a foundation that matches your neck completely. If you have to choose between a lighter or darker shade, go with the darker. The flash in cameras might reflect off your makeup and the last thing you want in your pictures is a white face with a darker neck. Bronzer is also a wonderful product to use on your wedding day to counteract the harsh effects of a flash. Try one that is matte instead of shimmer to minimize reflection.
- Blush is a must to add warmth onto your face. Use a darker blush under the cheekbone to add a contour and a brighter blush color on the apples of your cheeks to give you a “pop”. Blush instantly wakes up the face and gives you a glow.
- Before applying eye color, use an eye shadow primer. Make sure it is oil-free and lightweight so that it does not crease a few hours after wearing. A primer will ensure that your shadow goes on smooth and lasts all day.
- Waterproof, waterproof, waterproof mascara! Need we say more?!
- Eyebrows are very important. They frame your face. Make sure to get them waxed/trimmed/plucked a few days before your wedding to avoid irritation and redness. Experiment with pencils versus powders to fill in where needed.
- According to celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown, "avoid neutral and pale lip colors because they can look washed out in pictures. Choose a lipstick that is one to two shades brighter than what you normally wear. Not something intense but maybe a few colors up." Pinks, roses and plums are great choices. Try a long lasting formula of lipstick first, with a liner over the lipstick (filling in the lips) to seal in the lip color, and finish with a little gloss in the center of the bottom lip to add shine and fullness.
- Do a test run before your big day with a professional to pick out your desired look. Make sure to take notes on the colors used in case you have to purchase items for touch-ups like lips and pressed powder for shine.
- Take pictures of the test run in different light settings to see how your makeup will photograph on your wedding day.
- Your skin is the basis for your wedding day makeup as this is where it all begins. Make sure you drink plenty of water and start exfoliating 1-2 times per week in the month leading up to the wedding.
- Get your last regular facial a week before the wedding. If you rarely have facials, don't get one within a month of the wedding.
- If you choose to wear false lashes on your big day, experiment beforehand with different sizes and shapes. Determine if you want a full set or singles and ask a professional to help you apply them to get an idea of your options.
- Most important, compile several pictures from magazines, online sources, books, etc to show your makeup artist ideas for the look you desire on your special day.
