Vaneesha + Logan

Vaneesha and Logan's wedding was a perfect way to end 2009 and start 2010. Their wedding really reminded me of all the joys that come with a new union. Vaneesha (or "V" as her friends and family call her) found us from a distance--planning in Chicago. After meeting her for a jam-packed wedding planning weekend visit I knew that she was going to be one of our most awesome brides. She's truly a kind soul and so much fun to be around.
V used several of North Carolina's best vendors. Some of which were: Our friends Andrea and Sherrie from Bustles and Blooms as her wedding planners, the fantastically talented Kellie Kano out of Greensboro for her photographer, and one of our favorite DJ's in the Southeast, DJ Joe Bunn. This crowd was sure to please, and that they did!
Another side note before venturing into Kellie's amazing photos of V and Logan's day was Logan's uber-sweet wedding gift to V before their ceremony. He gave her a laminated copy of his journal entry the night he knew she was "the one". Agh! How precious! But ladies, for those of you out there gasping right now at how cute that was...I can honestly say that he must get his sentimental side from his father. After meeting his parents a couple times before the wedding (because I did a makeup lesson/party with his mother and her friend before the wedding) his parents told me the most awesome story about how Logan's mother MADE his father's tie that he wore on their wedding day. And get this...his dad has worn that same tie to every single wedding that he has gone to ever since! How precious!
Ok, enough of the sentiment and on to the gorgeous makeup and even more gorgeous couple! Thanks Kellie for sharing these pictures and we look forward to more of your work!

These are my photos of how gorgeous and HAPPY V was after getting ready. So beautiful!! Thanks for letting me share your day!

CHANEL : Fragrance and Beauty - Colour Collection
We've been helping out with a major regional MEGA Chanel event this week in Raleigh and are so pumped up about the new holiday collection!! I just thought I'd share with you all the gorgeous colors that Chanel has out for winter. Definitely one of the biggest trend-setters in the business. When everyone else is doing red lips, black liquid liner and pale skin...Chanel spices it up with Bird of Paradise quad described on their site as "... Bird of Paradise, a tropical-bright quartet of aqua, yellow, green-gold and copper shades..." So gorgeous! I just had to have one of those AND the exclusive Les Tissages Lame's de Chanel! Holiday parties, here we come!

How to Hire a Makeup Artist
An Interview With Gordon Espinet
Espinet is vice president of makeup artistry for M.A.C. Cosmetics.
By Danielle Pergament
Makeup artists don't just do weddings. If you want to look nice for a big event, find an expert at a store's makeup counter—most of them do freelance work for a surprisingly low fee.
· Shop around. Head to the department-store counter of your favorite brand and study the people doing makeovers. Who looks appealing and friendly? Wait for the person you want.
· Schedule a test run. The easiest way to try someone out is to get a free makeover right there in the store. If you like the way you look, then make an appointment with that person for your event. It's also nice to buy one or two of the products that she used on you. If the makeover didn't turn out that well, you shouldn't feel obligated to buy anything—or to hire her.
· Make yourself clear. Once you've found someone you like, ask plenty of questions. How much does she charge? ($75 to $150 is typical, depending on where you live.) Will she bring her own makeup and brushes, or use yours? Make sure you're entirely clear on the costs and your expectations, and speak up about anything she did during the test run that wasn't perfect—"The eyes are heavier than I wanted'' or "That lipstick washes me out''—so she has a chance to correct it.
· Get the timing right. Schedule your appointment for about three hours before the event; that way, you won't feel rushed, and the makeup will have a chance to settle. Be sure to tell her that you don't want her to use a mix of lipstick shades, which makes touching up much more difficult. (Plan to buy the lip color from the makeup artist so you can take it with you that night—you shouldn't need to reapply anything else.) And while a tip isn't expected, you can always throw in an extra 10 percent if you're really thrilled with the results.

Natalie + Zeke
Natalie and Zeke were married at the gorgeous Henderson Country Club in Henderson, NC. Our artist, N'Zinga, worked with Natalie and her bridesmaids to help them have a great time on Natalie's perfect day!
Shawn with Your Special Day Weddings and Special Events did an awesome job with coordinating the vendors and helping Natalie and Zeke get their special day to be just what they dreamed. Their wonderful photographer, Jacoby Photography shared these photos with us below. What a beautiful bride and bridal party!

Karen + Rex
Karen was too much fun! I knew I was meant to be her makeup artist when I walked in for the consultation to hear the whole new Dave Matthews Band record playing in the background. :) And just like that, I knew we were going to click! Love, love, love Dave--because we're on a first name basis.
Anyhow, not to be outdone by the bride, Karen's whole wedding party was a blast when we got them ready in Wake Forest, NC. Her wedding photographer, Melissa Stallman of Wake Forest Portrait Shoppe, did an amazing job with Karen and Rex's portraits at their studio after the ceremony. Because they are local they had the convenience of going to the studio (out of the heat) to get some awesome shots to cherish for years to come. Here are two of my favorites and one of me doing makeup on one of Karen's maids.
Thanks again for letting me be apart of your special day!

Brook's Beautiful Wedding
How much do we love these gorgeous blue dresses?! Everyone in Brook's wedding party was beautiful! These ladies were so much fun. Our artist, Rachelle, had a great time working with them while they got ready before Brook's wedding ceremony. This picture is courtesy of Angela Pendergrass out of Durham, NC.

Angi + Brandon

Angi and Brandon are the cutest couple! They were married at Angi's parent's house in beautiful May weather. We just adored working with Angi and her bridesmaids. They were all so much fun and we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their dresses!
Sweet Life Photography took so many awesome pictures of their day that we had to try to narrow it down to just a few for the blog. We hope you enjoy...they're some of our best! :)

Allison & Brett
.jpg)
We just can't get enough of these military men, I tell ya! This is the second military wedding in a month! We're so happy for this couple. Their strong will and sacrifice are a testament to just how great their marriage will be. We wish Allison and Brett the best!
We just got the pictures back from Allison and Brett's gorgeous nuptials at the Preston Woodall House in Benson, NC. Stacy Borelli with Swank Photo Studios took so many amazing photos that it was really hard to narrow them down for this blog. Her work is awesome and if you're in need of a photographer still you should definitely check her out...you won't be sorry!
Allison and Brett were married in Benson last month. I had personally never visited the Preston Woodall House but my biz partner, Jennifer House, raved about it. Once we got there for the wedding I could see why. It's awesome! Basically it's a main house with several rooms (it's a bed and breakfast) to stay in. There was so much room for the girls to get ready upstairs and the reception was held inside downstairs. The ceremony was actually outside and really holds a lot of people--believe it or not. I think what sets this place apart is that the owner actually owns several other houses around the main house and rents those out for guests, as well. Your whole wedding party can stay there or some nearby hotels. Very nice!
Allison worked with Your Special Day event planners and Shawn Schindler, owner, really outdid herself! The vendor list for this wedding was spectacular. Definitely some of the best groupings we've worked with as we're sure Allison can attest!
I've picked out some of the great pictures from Swank Photo Studios but there are so many more on Stacy's blog here. I hope you enjoy these! Thanks again Stacy!.jpg)

Recycle!
A lot of companies are starting (or have been doing so for a long time and not many people knew) a recycling program for their old or used cosmetics. MAC has had a program (Back to MAC) like this for years and now Bobbi Brown and even Sephora has jumped on the GREEN bandwagon. Here's a clip from an email newsletter I got today advertising Sephora's new recycling program. I think it's awesome!

Michelle and Eric

Michelle has to be one of my all time favorite brides. She's super cool, down to earth and brings an entourage that anyone would fall in love with. Michelle's bridesmaids (not to mention hilarious mother) are to die for cute! There's no wonder why a fella like Eric just had to "put a ring on it". :)
Michelle and Eric were married in Wake Forest at the gorgeous Sutherland. This was the first wedding we had worked at the Sutherland and we're so glad that we did because now we highly recommend it to all those brides still looking for an intimate venue with true southern charm. The inside is fabulous but my favorite part is the courtyard where Michelle and Eric's ceremony took place.
There were so many great moments at this wedding. Though I was only there for the beginning (getting the gals ready beforehand--which was a blast) the pictures from Elisa with inContrast made me feel like I was dancing with the crazy gals all night! Elisa did a beautiful job really capturing the personality of Michelle and her bridal party. Definitely check out inContrast's blog and the great stuff they've got going on there. Fantastic photographers! I've included some of my favorite photos below by inContrast and "the kiss" at the bottom is from Ashley Laura Lucas--just beautiful! Enjoy!

Funny Wedding Pictures
I was taking some time away from school work, makeupforyourday work and house work today to simply surf the internet. Somehow, I always end up on wedding blogs or local vendor's sites checking out what's new in our industry. Every now and then I come across hilarious photos that make me literally laugh out loud. Here is one that I came across today...I just had to share. I love it! She's so brave with that RED wine!! :)
I highly recommend all the bride-to-be's out there to take some awesome shots like this one to really capture your own personality during your big day!

Wedding Videos
How much thought have you put into your videographer? Personally, when Jeremy and I got married last year I didn't think too much about it. Instead, I put more emphasis on my photographer. I was of the mind that my pictures are the most important thing (and us looking good in them!) and that's where I should put my money. It's no secret to those that know me that I'm a picture fanatic and my wedding would have been ruined without an awesome photographer to document the day for us.
Flash forward to a little over a year later--it goes by so quick--and now I'm wishing I had spent a little more time worrying about a videographer. On our one year anniversary I would have loved to watch our special day play back with an overlay of a beautiful song and snippets from the rehearsal dinner and reception toasts. Needless to say, we have a self-produced video of just the ceremony. That works for the most part to have the vows captured, but it's definitely not out of this world or tear-jerking.
So...when I came across this company in California it made me a little sad that we didn't have someone make a video like this of our wedding, but happy at the same time that I can share this idea with others. Jeremy and I have 7 (yes 7) weddings to attend--already--next year. I hope that these happy couples take my advise and invest in a great videographer for their wedding day! :)
Check out this link to Stillmotion Photo and Cinema. They are phenomenal! I think I've spent 2 hours today watching a bunch of their weddings!! Here is one wedding embedded...but go to their site and check out some of the others.
anna + norbert // london, ontario sde from stillmotion on Vimeo.
Now, I know you may not want a full-on cinematic production like these guys present; however, you get the point that you're going to want something SPECIAL to look back on so make your local videographer choices wisely!!

Great Wedding Blogs!
Today has been a physically uneventful day so far...but what an EVENTFUL stationary day in front of the computer! :) Recently, I've become obsessed with wedding vendor blogs. I love reading random ones from photographers, planners, florists, etc and feeling like I'm getting to know them and also grabbing some awesome ideas to pass along to my friends that are getting married next year. (Between Jeremy and I we have SIX weddings next year!!)
Today, I came across some great local blogs here in NC and I just had to post a link to one in particular. Erin McLean Events is an awesome wedding planner and as I read more into her blog I wish I had known her for mine last year! Check out this fantastic youtube video from one of her most recent weddings. If you don't laugh and start dancing in your seat something is wrong with you! :) Way to go Erin! This is awesome and definitely created a wedding no one in attendance will forget. Love your ideas!

Aubrey and Justin's Wedding
Aubrey and Justin were married at their beautiful family winery in Virginia, Rosemont Vineyards. The setting for their beautiful wedding was perfect. These ladies were so much fun! (How could you NOT have loads of fun at a vineyard, right?!)
Bustles and Blooms planned the event of a lifetime. Sherrie and Andrea left no stone unturned as they shelled out a fun-filled, high-class soiree that lingered well into the night. The ladies at Bustles and Blooms do an excellent job at covering all the bases. They help to remember the little things that we might forget when planning big events. Some of my favorites for Aubrey's wedding were the place cards held up by corks and tables labeled by brand of wine (Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, etc). Also, they knew how much fun this crew was going to have so they even masterminded a table with flip-flops for people to change into as to keep the dancing going on all night long! How fun!
Aubrey was such a cool bride that she gave one of mine and Jennifer's FAVORITE gifts as favors to her guests...WINE! (no, we're not alcoholics...we just love our ladies night with a bottle
We're attaching some photos from Aubrey's phenomenal photographer, Robert Harris, out of Richmond and Southern Virginia. His work is amazing and we're so happy to have worked with him. There are plenty so enjoy all the shots...we did!

Bianca and Keith's Wedding
We had such a great time working with Bianca and Keith for their gorgeous wedding reception at the High Grove in Fuquay Varina. Bianca was the picture-perfect stress free bride as she and Keith had already performed their nuptials in St. Lucia a couple weeks before their NC debut. Their reception was full of friends, family, and fun!
All pictures are from the fabulous f8 Photo Studios out of Raleigh, NC. Jonathan and Cara are amazing photographers and we just love working with them. If you haven't found your perfect match for a photographer for your special day yet...give them a call. We couldn't give a higher recommendation!
Also, you'll notice the awesome centerpieces and flowers in the photos and those are by the very talented Warte' T. Moore of Warte' Designs. His work is phenomenal and you should check it out if you're looking for budget-friendly designs or wanting to go all out. He can work with any budget, any style and you'll be sure to be satisfied with the results. Enjoy!

Geoffrey and Nescel's Wedding in NJ
Geoffrey and Nescel had a beautiful wedding in Jersey City, NJ this month. The ceremony was held at a Catholic church in Jersey City and the reception followed in Parsippany at Knoll Country Club.
The bride and groom planned a stunning reception with lots of fun things for guests. By far one of the best things there was a photo booth that was manned all night by a photographer that helped snap a succession of 4 pictures, then printed out a copy for the guest and a copy of the 4 for the bride and groom's scrapbook. The guests could then leave a note for the happy couple by their picture to be cherished for years to come. (Being a scrapbooker, of course I got the biggest thrill out of that and wished I had thought of it for my wedding!!) :) I'm enclosing a set of 4 with my hubby, sister-in-law, and nephew that is too cute! There were hats, glasses and other props to make it interesting!
For any brides out there looking for unique wedding favors, Geoff and Nescel gave wonderful eco-friendly bags in their wedding colors. You can find something similar by doing google searches for "eco bags" or "wedding eco bags", etc. I also found a Facebook page of a vendor here: Ecobags.com. They are the coolest favors we've received in a long time because we actually USE them afterwards! (Thanks Geoff and Nescel!)
There were so many great things about this wedding in NJ. Family, friends and a beautiful new union. Congrats to them and we wish them the best!

1 Year Anniversary Weekend in Asheville, NC
Jeremy and I celebrated our first year of wedded bliss last weekend in Asheville, NC. :) I can't believe it's even been a whole year already! For all you ladies that are rushing your weddings and planning, planning, planning...let me just say--slow down! It all goes so fast! Though you think you're ready to just have it planned and get it over with enjoy all the time you have for it is so short. And even more, enjoy your first year together.
Jeremy and I spent a Valentine's Day in Asheville right before our 2008 wedding and loved the city so much that we decided to go back for our anniversary. This time around it was beautiful sunny weather without the usual NC humidity and believe it or not, no rain until the very last day of our trip! We had a wonderful time.
We stayed at the Marriott Renaissance off Woodfin Street and could not have been more pleased. The modern tastes of the furniture and decorations were right up our alley and it was within WALKING DISTANCE to everything downtown! It was awesome! We hardly had to drive anywhere. In fact, the only places we drove to were Marshall, NC for horseback riding at the Sandy Bottom Trails and Grove Park Inn on Sunday for dinner. The rest was all within walking distance.
Our weekend was full of FOOD (that should come to no surprise to those that know Jeremy and I personally). We went downtown everyday and had delicious meals at different places. Some of the most mentionable spots were Green Sage Coffee House, Mayfel's, Chorizo and Bistro 1896. Now for dinner Jeremy and I splurged and went all out at two places Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday we went to Rezaz Mediterranean down in Biltmore Village and we both have to say that it was THE BEST food, service, atmostphere, etc EVER! We could not have been more pleased with this place. Everyone we asked in Asheville had great things to say about this restaurant and all urged us to go. So thank you Asheville!
On Sunday (our Anniversary) we woke up to breakfast in our room--just like the honeymoon! :) Next we went downtown to Sensabilities Day Spa for a couples massage with the best therapists around. Amy and Cameron were amazing. I had a hot stone massage that was to die for...seriously! These ladies really know what they are doing. The spa was so relaxing and everyone there was so pleasant and knowledgeable. No one even tried to sell us product...which is great! We just enjoyed our time and then went out for another stroll downtown to see some of the vendors on the street. We picked up a beautiful coral bracelet for my mom (to say thanks for babysitting our doggies) and a gorgeous torquoise necklace and earrings set from the very talented Gabriella Egan. Her jewelry is stunning. Check out her site...I'm sure you'll find something you have to have, too!
After being downtown for the better part of the day we went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We exchanged gifts there (Jeremy had a beautiful set of sapphire earrings made to match my ring by Holland's Jeweler's) and then we were off! We decided to go to Grove Park's balcony restaurant called Sunset Terrace. It overlooks the city and in the background is a gorgeous view of the mountains. The view was spectacular and we recommend everyone go there at least for drinks if you can't stay for a meal. We toured the facility but weren't too impressed with the Inn side. The food was great; however, the service lacked a bit for what we were paying...and it didn't help that we were comparing it to the night before at Rezaz.
All in all, though it was a great dinner, great company and and great 1st year anniversary! I highly recommend all you "mountain wedding seekers" out there to take a look at some of the places I've mentioned and let us know if you have other places you enjoy frequenting on your trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Summer Bikini-Body Ready

Are any of you out there freaking out about having to get in a bathing suit in the next few weeks?! I am! Jeremy and I have our 1 year anniversary (so soon, right?!) creeping up on us the weekend of Memorial Day. We have planned a short trip out of town to celebrate (the rest of the moolah is going to housing stuff, yay!!) and of course, we will be by a pool at some point. So...aside from the obvious need to self tan so that I don't scare all the little children by the pool with my ghastly coloring I need a little help with the leg and thigh department! :) So, I have enlisted the troops!
I am currently using Clarins High Definition Body Lift from ankles to waist to help with circulation and tightening up the thigh area. I have found over the years that this product also helps to reduce the look of spider veins, too. It by no means gets rid of them...just helps to make them look less pronounced. This product is awesome if you're going out in a skirt or shorts and need that immediate tightening effect, too!
In addition to the Clarins product I am seriously contemplating giving Bliss a go at my "problem spots". I have seen these items in stores like Sephora, Nordstrom and Ulta for years but never ventured out to try them. What do you all think? Has anyone out there given them a whirl and are they worth the money? I'll be so happy to hear from you! Here they are:

Wilmington Wedding
Last weekend Jeremy and I got to go to a beautiful small wedding in Wilmington, NC. My friend, Teresa (suite mate in college) married the wonderful Dan in a small church in a field of flowers. It was gorgeous! Bridesmaids wore various dresses of green and the bride wore a simple, elegant white dress. The reception was held at Porter's Neck Country Club with food, dancing and painting...yes, painting! Teresa had the awesome idea to have a room set up with paint, brushes and canvases for the guests to paint pictures and messages for the bride and groom. Of course, she announced at the reception, "Be nice everyone, these are going to go up in our new house!" Somehow, I think the one that said something ugly about UNC will get painted over or "accidentally" thrown away, though! :) So much fun! We wish them the best.
Here are a few of the pictures I took as well as a link from her photographer (that was super awesome, btw) Dana Hawley. Enjoy...we did!(taken by me, isn't she beautiful?!)
