New Office Space and Facials!

Most of my Sunday has been spent planning our new home office space. So many decisions to make on paint, desks, storage, etc.! I have a feeling this is going to be as in depth as planning a dinner rehearsal. 🙂

Once all is done I will post pictures of the space we choose. After all, it’s where all the “magic” happens for makeupforyourday!

Also, I had a fabulous facial last week at Skin Sense Day Spa in Brier Creek. My esthetician‘s name was Patty and she was great. I did the Salicylic and Glycolic facial that was very gentle but really did the trick to jump start my skin after the holidays. I’m now using a Skinceuticals retinol cream at night that she recommended to me 2-3 times a week to help with the breakouts and uneveness. My skin is peeling a bit now (which is normal) so I’m super hydrating with Chanel’s HydraMax Creme and HydraMax Serum during the day and Sublimage at night. Of course, with any peel regimen and using a Retinol you must use a sunscreen (even in this kind of dreary weather) so I’m using my favorite sunscreen ever, the oil-free SPF 40 UV Plus from Clarins. This sunscreen rocks and is awesome with makeup. You put it over your moisturizer (just 3-4 drops in your hand) and then start your foundation next. I highly recommend it to everyone since it’s oil free and also filters out harmful free radicals that cause aging and damage to the skin.

Brides, if you’re looking to start a skin care regimen before your wedding I highly suggest going to visit an esthetician 3-4 months before your big day in order to get your skin acclimated to its new regime of products. You don’t want any unsuspecting breakouts right before your big day! Feel free to contact me or my partner Jennifer House if you have any questions you’d like to ask us about skincare products or makeup for your special day. We’re here to help!

Have a great weekend and enjoy your day off tomorrow if you’re one of the lucky ones!

A Baby for 2009!!!

We will soon have an addition to our makeupforyourday family…Alecia Danielle House! We showered the mom-to-be (again) with gifts at her baby shower in Apex yesterday. Jen is due next month but we have a bet going that Alecia may show up way before her due date. We’ll see! The winner gets diaper duty and babysitting rights for a month I think. 😉

Here is a picture of us with little Alecia not to be seen yet. Next month or before, though we’ll update you with the little one’s beautiful face!

Nikki and Chris Williams

We just got the pictures back from Chris and Nikki’s wedding in November! We had so much fun working with Nikki, her mom and bridesmaids in Chapel Hill, NC. The wedding was gorgeous, and even more so was the bride. Their ceremony was held at the Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street and the reception was in the Pope Box above the Kenan Football Stadium. Here are some pictures taken by Chris Arrington Photography of the bride and attendants.

Happy Thanksgiving

We would like to wish everyone out there a Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you have a wonderful holiday and share your special day with loved ones all around.

Updates

It’s been a while since our last blog! We’ve been very busy with weddings in the triangle area as well as a very special one that’s near and dear to my heart…my own!! Jeremy and I were married in Whitehouse, Jamaica on May 24th in a gorgeous ceremony on the beach. We had 54 guests travel with us and it was absolutely beautiful. All travel arrangements were handled by our wonderful travel agent, Debbie Kaiser over at Magic Happens Travel in Cary, NC. She was amazing with all the details for booking our guests and ensuring that everyone had all the information for international travel well in advance. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to help plan our big day!
In addition, we were able to get in some great makeup shots from several other weddings and will be uploading those to our gallery in the next few days. Be sure to check them out on our website soon.
Since we’ve been back from paradise we’ve stayed busy with some weddings in Raleigh, NC. One in particular was fantastic with Elizabeth Borkon and David Potts. They were married in a church ceremony in Raleigh, NC in June. Neil Boyd Photography did a great job capturing Beth’s natural beauty and we’re hoping to get some of their shots for our site soon. So check back!
Finally, in between weddings we’ve been helping out Donna from Southern Bride & Groom magazine with a couple of photoshoots that will premiere in the December issue this year. We’re very excited to be advertising with this wonderful publication and highly recommend stopping by one of the bridal shows to pick one up or order a copy at their website.
It’s been an exciting summer thus far and it’ll only get better with all the brides we have to work with coming up in the next few months! Hit us up with any questions if we can be of service with your wedding day look!

Bridal Portraits

Yesterday I went on site to take my bridal portraits and it was so much fun! All week I was scrambling to get all the last minute items in tow and didn’t know if it was all going to work out. I had to find time in a very hectic schedule to get my nails done, buy shoes, undergarments, and figure out what in the world to do with my hair! It all worked out, though as I had my hair dresser (Brooke Parker–no relation!) add a clip in to my tiny ponytail and make a side bun. She actually came along on site with me, too so I could have her do touch ups throughout the shoot. She’s amazing! Check her out if you’re looking for an awesome, hip stylish. Her salon is in Apex/Cary off Morrisville-Carpenter Road.

In addition to freaking out about what to do with my hair I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my makeup either! I finally went with a bronzy-peach motif and I think it suited my portraits well. We took them in the Millenium Center in Winston-Salem and then went for outside shots in the Arts District (even in front of some graffiti walls!) and then over to Reynolda Gardens. My photographer, Jacqui Causey, was terrific in finding the “out-of-the-box” shots that I wanted. We went so far to take some in the basement of the old courthouse in Winston. It was awesome! I had so much fun! We took traditional shots for mom and grandma and the rest were modern and real for me. I’ll be sure to post some next month after the wedding for all to see. Can’t do it beforehand because Jeremy might read the blog and get us some bad luck for seeing the bride in her gown before the “big day”! 🙂

Hope you all are having a great week and planning is going well! Can’t wait to hear your stories, too!

Bridal Show in Raleigh, NC

Today was a long day at the bridal show in Raleigh! We got there at 8am to set up for makeup in the show. We were featured artists–doing all the makeup for the models on stage. Everything ran very smoothly and we had tons of fun with all the ladies. After almost 2.5 hours of makeup and nearly 20 models the doors opened and in swarmed all the brides. Today’s show was great with lots of eager MOBs and “Bride’s Little Helper’s” (as the cute sticker-tags said). We were able to talk to a lot of brides that had questions about our business and what we actually do when we come out. It was very interesting to see some peoples’ responses when we let them know that we provide this great service to pamper them. Needless to say, if they hadn’t thought about having someone come out before the show…they are definitely thinking about it now! What a treat! A lot of the bridesmaids were excited about it, as well.

The show had a wonderful assortment of vendors, too. We ran into Debbie from Magic Happens Travel who is wonderful! She’s actually coordinating my wedding in Jamaica right now and has been absolutely phenomenal in making this as stress free as possible. I met Debbie through my business partner, Jennifer House, who used Magic Happens for her honeymoon in the Dominican Republic last year. She’s great! If you haven’t booked your honeymoon yet, definitely check her out. She and Marcie and Michael are all great to work with and you’ll have a lot of fun.

There were a lot of photographers, as usual, but some of the ones that we really like to see at every show and work with hand-in-hand are Cara and Jonathan from F8 Photography. They are hilarious and get some of the most dynamic and out-of-the-box photos that I’ve seen. Too bad they’re unavailable for my wedding in Jamaica…that would be trouble waiting to happen! 🙂

We took tons of photos today (thanks to my soon-to-be-hubby) and will update the website soon. I’ll post some of the good ones in the next couple of days to this blog.

If you met us at the show and enjoyed chatting us up let us know and leave us a comment! We look forward to hearing all about your planning!

Have a great night everyone!
