Spotlight on Ciaté’s Unique Nail Products

Ciaté is a company that was started by UK-based nail artist Charlotte Knight. The company has seen great success with the invention of many unique, never-been-done-before nail product breakthroughs.

The company’s polishes, texture kits and treatments create the most interesting manicures and pedicures giving women the ability to have statement nails without going to a salon.  Some of their trend-setting products include:

Ciaté’s Paint Pots Nail Polish

These nail polishes come in a variety of highly pigmented colors and look stunning on hands and feet. Their polishes are known to be ahead of the trends when it comes to releasing new colors and are inspired by beauty, fashion and design to create new colors.

Ciaté’s Chalkboard Manicure Set

Start by applying the black matte polish to your nails and let it dry. Then use the chalk pens to doodle fun designs on your nails! The chalk will come off in water, but once you find the design you like, seal it in with the clear top coat and you are good-to-go!
Ciaté’s Very Colourfoil Manicure Set

This is an extremely fun manicure kit that allows for a creative, and incredibly cool, look for the nails. This look creates a raw foil finish, but includes a top coat that is so shiny that it will be unlike any other metallic manicure out there!

 Ciaté’s Velvet Manicure

This kit to the beauty community by storm when it was released. This kit contains and two-step process that will leave your nails with a velvet finish! This kit was inspired by the idea of layering textures that was seen on the runways. After brushing the crushed velvet onto your nails, you will know why this kit claims to be “luxury” at your fingertips!
Ciaté’s Sequinned Manicure

Don’t want the party to stop? This kit allows you to apply sequins to your nails which creates a fun and textured look like no other. Unlike other nail polish that tries to achieve this sparkly, multi-dimensional look, by brushing sequins onto the nail directly, it allows easy application to achieve this unique look.
Ciaté’s Caviar Manicure Set

Just when you thought it couldn’t get more crazy, the caviar nail kit comes out. Following the idea of luxury and texture for the nails, this kit includes pearlescent beads for a 3D effect that will turn heads. Although it is not real caviar, this look emulates the classy food and gives the impression of high-class opulence for your hands and feet.

MYD loves Boudoir Beauty !

A boudoir is, by definition, is a woman’s private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room. Boudoir photography incorporates the idea of being in that private space and capturing that intimacy. The photos show a sensual and private side of a woman and creates beautiful images to have and to keep.

Although there may be some negative associations with boudoir photos being too erotic, tacky and tasteless. By working with the right photographer and knowing what you like, you can achieve a soft, classy look that create beautiful photos that can be framed instead of hidden in a drawer.

We think that boudoir photos are a great idea for life milestones such as a wedding, an anniversary, moving into a new home, after having a baby – anything. It is a reminder that although life can get crazy and overwhelming, it is important to feel beautiful and take time for yourself. Done right, we think boudoir photos can empower women to feel confident and sexy.

Would you ever take boudoir pictures? What sort of boudoir beauty do you like – something smokey or something more natural? Let us know in the comments box below!

Eye Allergies? MYD Shares Some Tricks to Keep the Redness Under Control

Pollen season is upon us! Allergies are rampant and people are flocking to the allergy aisles of the nearest pharmacy. Some people deal with allergies internally, like sneezing and coughing, and some people deal with more external symptoms such as swollen, dry and red skin around the eyes.

Unfortunately there isn’t much we can do from a makeup standpoint for the internal allergy sufferers, but for the people with dry, puffy and red allergy eyes – here are some helpful hints for you!

Besides allergy medication, make sure to use a cold compress on your eyes. While the skin is still moist, dab some oil (we love almond oil) around the eye to seal in some moisture. You also want to ensure that if you put makeup on your eyes that you clean your eyes well before bed.

AVOID:
* Red-based eye shadows
* Shimmery eye products
* Heavy products
* Building product on too thick

The trick with covering up the redness is to first use a color corrector. If the skin is red, use a green-based corrector and pat it on. Some people experience more of a purple than a red in the skin around their eyes. If so, use a orangey-yellow-based corrector.

Once you pat that on the affected areas you can use a lightweight, cream-based concealer.

This is a great time to go for the glossy look. We love MAC’s Mixing Medium Shine. With this product you can make any eyeshadow glossy. You can even take loose pigment, make it glossy and apply it with a brush.

Do you suffer from allergies? What sort of remedies do you use? We would love to know in the comments box below!

Coconut: The Many uses of this Summery Superfood

We hope that everyone had a good and restful long weekend and enjoyed some nice weather outdoors. When heading outdoors, we can’t emphasize the importance of layering on SPF.
There are a few smells that are always associated with summer months, and coconut is definitely one of them. With many sunscreens and creams filled with the island scent, you can’t help but invision a beach and the ocean.
Coconut oil is antimicrobial, ant-inflammatory, is an antioxidant and is an extremely effective moisturizer. There are countless uses for coconut oil for your skin and hair, the info graphic below courtesy of IdealHomeGarden demonstrates some of the most popular uses for this superfood.
Have you ever used coconut oil for your hair or your skin – what did you do? Did it work well? We would love to know! Let us know via TwitterFacebook or the Comments Box below!

MYD Reader Request Series: Laugh Lines

We hope everyone has been enjoying our Reader Request Series so far. Today we are going to tackle another thing that is tough to tackle – fine lines and wrinkles.

Becky asks… “What can I do about my laugh lines?”

The market is flooded with anti-wrinkle creams, youth serums and tons of products for mature skin. Although we cannot get into all of those things in this post, definitely leave a comment below if you would be interested in having us write an in-depth post about anti-aging products.

For today’s post we are going to cover some tips and tricks that can help you disguise and fill fine lines.

As with anything, you want to start with clean, fresh skin. Remember that adequate sleep and hydration can work wonders for your face.

Next you will want to moisturize. If your skin is dry, whatever product you apply will be visible, stick to any dry patches and make any fine lines more prominent.

After you moisturize, you can use a skin plumper such as Dr. Brandt’s Lineless Lines No More. This product instantly plumps skin and after 15 minutes it can reduce the wrinkle line’s depth by 32%. This is a great quick fix in the morning before makeup and is especially great to use before a party or an important event.

Choosing the right foundation is important in ensuring that you are not highlighting any fine lines. Make sure to use a liquid foundation that isn’t too heavy. You want to ensure that foundation looks natural and sinks into your skin instead of caking and creasing where you have lines. A thiner, lighter consistency will help accomplish this.

Using cream-based products is a really great trick for avoiding drawing attention to fine lines. You want to really dab in the product to make sure it is absorbed. If you layer it too thickly then the opposite can happen and the cream can crease and look unnatural.

It is important to remember not to use bronzer on any fine lines. The darkness of the bronzer will emphasize the depth and create more of a shadow. If you have crows feet, dab a tiny amount of highlighter on the outer corners of your eye. This will reflect light and camouflage the lines.

Again, be sure to take great care of your skin with lots of water, moisturizer, sleep and a good diet. This will help you look and feel great from the inside-out.

Tomorrow is the last day of Reader Request Series, we have really enjoyed answering your questions. If you have enjoyed this series or found it helpful, let us know in the comments box below and we can do it again soon!

MYD Reader Request Series: BB Creams

We are so excited for our Reader Request Series this week. Each day we have picked one of your questions and asked our talented team of artists and stylists for their professional input.

Sherrie asks… “Do you have a BB Cream that you recommend? I want something that has SPF 25 or higher, but still has color and coverage.”

We like the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35. We love this formula, it provides great coverage but works as a light foundation. The creams moisturizes, primes, perfects, controls oils and creates a a beautiful, smooth finish.

Bobbi Brown’s BB Cream (SPF 35) is a great option. This formula includes water-attracting molecules that boost hydration, light-reflecting pearls that brighten dull skin, botanical extracts and caffeine to reduce redness and discoloration and peptides that reduce pores. This cream really is a multi-tasker!

We also would recommend Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream with SPF 25. This cream focuses on 3 main areas. It evens, revitalizes and protects skin. It softens lines, wrinkles and imperfections while revitalizing skin with organic kiwi extract. Finally, this cream protects with SPF 25 and filters to protect the skin against free radicals.

Clinique Age Defence BB Cream with SPF 30 is great. This formula utilizes antioxidants to shield and protect skin while providing UVA/UVB protection and smoothing out fine lines and imperfections. Like the other Clinique skin products, with this you can expect great quality and ingredients.

BB Creams are great if you are in a rush and need a quick fix to even out skin tone. We love BB Creams in the summer especially as you spend more time outdoors. It is the perfect tool to create a flawless face while offering SPF protection with other great skin benefits.

That wraps up day one of our Reader Request Series, thank you so much Sherrie for your question.

Check back tomorrow for day two of our Reader Request Series!

MYD Shares a Great DIY Matte Lipstick Trick!

Today we want to share a great DIY courtesy of The Beauty Department. We love when there are ways to use existing products that we love in new ways. A lot of great lipsticks have a satin or glossy finish and this tutorial will show you how to take your favorite colors and make them matte!
Take a lipstick with a glossy or satin finish and apply it to your lips. Then, with your finger, take a powdered blush in a similar shade to your lipstick and dab the powder on top.
If you do not have a blush in a similar color to your lip color, then use a setting powder. Whether you use a loose or pressed powder to set your foundation and concealer, this is a great alternative to make your lipstick matte if you don’t have a blush that you would like to use.

MYD presents Home Remedies to the Rescue

We love when we find common household items that can provide quick-fixes, or intermittent and ongoing remedies for a variety of beauty issues. We wanted to share some of our favorite home remedies with you in a series of posts that we will put up at the beginning of each month. Here are some of our April favorites!

For pimples a great home remedy is toothpaste. If you find Benzoyl Peroxide to be hard and drying on breakouts, or if you are using that too frequently as an overnight remedy, try toothpaste one night instead. Toothpaste helps absorb the oil and will shrink the pimple over night.

In the morning, wash your face and dab some Visine on your pimple. Visine reduces redness in eyes by shrinking blood vessels, and the same will apply to your pimple. Although it won’t last all day, dabbing some Visine on your pimple will help reduce redness for a few hours.

It seems like common knowledge that tea bags in cold water can help with puffy eyes. If you use caffeinated tea, the caffeine will shrink blood vessels which will help reduce swelling and redness. The cold temperature with also soothe and de-puff eyes. Tip: Avoid using Earl Grey tea. The oil of bergamot in this tea may cause an irritation for people with sensitive skin.

To get rid of product build up in your hair, rinse it with apple cider vinegar. ACV will also give you soft and shiny hair by sealing the hair cuticle (this is why you should not use shampoo or conditioner afterwards, instead just rinse the ACV out with cold water). And added bonus is that ACV is a natural dandruff remedy!

For dry and cracked cuticles try soaking your fingertips in warm water. Then massage olive oil on them. This will help seal in moisture, plus prevent your cuticles from becoming dry because of cold weather, hand washing and just everyday wear and tear.

Do you have a beauty question? You have the opportunity to ask whatever you want and we will ask our talented team of artists and stylists. They will answer your questions in our Reader Request series – read more about that here! And don’t forget to submit your answers in the comments box below, or via Twitter or Facebook.
