6 Tips for Incorporating Nature in Your Raleigh Wedding

Get me to the park on time! Outdoor weddings are a growing trend right now. The idea of exchanging vows in the beauty of nature has expanded from backyards, parks, and beaches to ranches, barns, and even wineries!

Any wedding venue, whether outdoors or in, is enhanced with a touch of nature. That includes everything from the decorations and gifts to the bride herself.

Ways to incorporate nature into the tying of the knot are limited only by your imagination. It’s a great way to get the bride, groom, family, and friends involved in the hands-on adventure of creating an experience that is uniquely yours!

Here are a few ideas for starters.

1. Prep Your Venue

If it’s an outdoor setting, make sure the lawn and plants are neat, trimmed, weed-free, and pruned. Indoors or out, see that electrical lines to lights, speakers, and instruments are tidy and out of the way, not only for appearances but for guests’ safety.

2. Consider Potted Plants

You can place these practically anywhere — at the end of seating rows and on prosceniums, stages, and altars. Arrange them in asymmetrical groupings with taller ones at the center, and shorter ones huddled around. Choose blooming plants that complement the surroundings and your color scheme. Orchids are favorites because they come in such a large variety of shapes and colors. Hibiscus can give the event a tropical flair, and you can’t miss with roses. Hint: Plants with heart-shaped leaves such as philodendron and anthurium impart a subtle message. Keep in the spirit of the season — poinsettias around Christmas, lilies at Easter, red, white and blue blossoms in July, and garnish with gourds in autumn.

3. A Flower for Her Hair

Continue the nature theme with a complementing flower, crown, or wreath in the bride’s hair. Garlands are challenging traditional bouquets as a wedding favorite. Blooms intertwined in vines may be a simple shoulder wrap or trail elaborately down the train. Smaller versions are great for bridesmaids.

4. Think Arbors and Bowers

Arbors and bowers can be constructed from a trellis available at any garden center. Intertwine with vines of ivy and a few blossoms for color. Weave in eucalyptus branches to add a pleasant, fresh aroma.

5. Hang Baskets, Ferns

In an indoor setting, Use a suspended frame to allow English ivy or fern fronds to dangle above guests. Just make sure the frames are sturdy and securely suspended.

6. Trees

The owners of the hall you rented might frown on planting trees in their space, but you can always use potted trees to add diversity to your venue (and cover up things you don’t want showing). Topiary trees make excellent sentinels at the entrance of the aisle. Instead of buying, you might find them at rental companies that carry wedding supplies. Good artificials can work as well as real trees.

In addition to beautifying the decor, touches of nature work as gifts. Small potted succulents make excellent take-home favors. So do wildflower seeds in decorated packets. Tiny glass terrariums are more expensive, but always a hit.

Adding a little extra nature to an outdoor wedding has a practical benefit. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, you can always take your portable forest inside at your Plan-B setting. Another practical advantage is that with some careful planning, nature weddings can cost less than a traditional formal ceremony.

Don’t be tied to old-fashioned ideas and rules. It’s your wedding, so make it the once-in-a-lifetime experience you want it to be!

Vendor Booking Timeline

Choosing your vendors for your big day can be a daunting task.  There are so many things on your check list when first starting out, it’s hard to know where to begin.  We are loving this timeline that Wedding Wire has come out with to help manage when different vendors should be found and booked. WW X2-VendorBookingTimeline-2017_x2_v03

When it comes to hair and makeup, the earlier the better. Thus, why we love this time line.  Twelve months or more gives you time to not only find the hair and makeup artists that fit your style and needs perfectly, but allows you to get in for a trial very early on so you can check off your list what you want your look to be for your big day!

We here at Makeup for Your Day, love traveling world wide to get brides ready.  We’ve seen some pretty spectacular venues out there and look forward to seeing more breathtaking places for gorgeous ceremonies and receptions.  For you newly engaged couples out there, be sure and check out this list to explore beautiful wedding venues in the Raleigh area as well as all over the world!copy-of-mikkelpaige-merrimon_wynne_house-makeup_for_your_day_0009

Inspiration: 15 Bohemian Wedding Updos

Summer is the perfect time to let your inner hippie out and rock a perfectly imperfect bohemian updo. You wont reach for the smoothing serums for any of these looks. They are defined by their organic, “messy” style that often incorporate braids or natural textures. Best worn on second-day hair or with a texture spray to give the hair a little natural grit. Let us know in the comments below which style is your favorite!

9.

bohoinspo13
Let it all hang out. Keep it low and loose.

10.

bohoinspo6
Boho twist on a classic chignon by keeping the hair textured and piecey

Tendrils aren’t just for face framing! Let them cascade down the back too

Inspiration: Brittanys Bridal Portraits at The Carolina Inn

Disney Princess status can be found here in Brittany’s Bridal Portraits shot at The Carolina Inn by Fancy This Photography. WOW! Brittany looked radiant with her long naturally red hair that was loosely placed in a half up half down, voluminous style. Her soft makeup complimented her gorgeous skin so well. Those baby blues just shine with a soft gold smokey eye and defined lashes. Her wedding gown by Lazaro is the perfect choice for the classic style of the Carolina Inn. How to Get Beachy Waves – For All Hair Types

Its Summertime! Time to hit the pool, the beaches, the picnics, the bbqs and the patios. One of the best hairstyles for summer is beachy waves. They have a trendy, yet low maintenance look to them and they can be chic but laid back at the same time.
Sometimes it is hard to achieve this look because different hair types have different problems. Straight hair may go limp, curly hair may be too frizzy or colored hair may be too dry. Thanks to The Beauty Department, they give a product recommendation for 8 different hair types to help achieve the perfect beachy wave.
Do you like the look of beachy waves? What are your favorite products or tricks? We would love to know! Let us know via Facebook or the comments box below!

February is Bridal Show Month for Makeup for Your Day! Our final bridal show for February was back in Durham at The Cookery! This venue is also historic and has a very unique and urban feel to it.

Megan and I at the Cookery!

This event had a live band and the guests were encouraged to visit every vendor for a chance to enter a raffle!

Megan and I had so much fun chatting with brides and their fiances about their upcoming wedding plans! We met guests who were just recently engaged and some that were just putting the finishing touches on their events.

Bridal shows are a great way to get to chat with vendors and see venues fully decorated. If you find yourself at a bridal show in the future, please make sure you stop by and chat with us! My favorite part of it all is meeting couples and sharing in the excitement of planning a wedding and getting to know them.

That wraps up our bridal shows before we enter this 2016 wedding season. We’ve got a lot of work to do catching up with all the brides we met at the shows this season! See you at the next show!

Bridal Show Month: The Wed Tour

February is Bridal Show Month and I am documenting all of the shows Makeup for Your Day attended! This time we were on The Wed Tour of Raleigh.

unnamed (9)

unnamed (2)

This was a fun event because guests took a trolley between several different venues where different vendors were set up.

unnamed (1)

Makeup for Your Day was set up at the Merrimon Wynne! This is one of my favorite venues in Raleigh just because the bridal suite is so gorgeous!

unnamed

I was in love with the paper crane display cascading from the center of the house! The entire Merrimon Wynne was glammed out with splashes of navy, gold and fuschia.

unnamed (12)
I spy our spread in Trendy Bride magazine which was shot at the Merrimon Wynne!

This was a very intimate event with only a handful of vendors at each venue. We had the honor of sharing space with vendors like Perry Vaile, Donovan’s Dish, Erin McLean Events and Bunn DJ company!

I will continue to document the bridal shows we attended in February on the blog! Catch us tomorrow to see where Megan and I ended up next!

Bridal Show Month: Museum of Life and Science

February is Bridal Show Month at Makeup for Your Day and I will be documenting all of the shows we went to! Megan and I were back in Durham again for a bridal show at the Museum of Life and Science.

20160219_182431

I think that this venue brought out the inner child in me. We were set up in the weather room and I don’t know how many vendors can say they could chat with brides next to a tornado!

20160219_203134
The museum set up this gorgeous alter.

Our models for this event were actually employees at the museum and were such a treat to chat with. They talked about how great it was to work for the museum!

There was live music, food trucks and live animals, all of which could be brought out at an event. I met a lizard and a snake at the bridal show! How cool is that!?

20160219_184032
Monica, an employee of the museum, played the role of the “bride” perfectly!

I also got to try some honey lavender ice cream from The Parlour ice cream bus! It was so delicious! Also, who doesn’t love running up to the ice cream truck for a sweet treat!

Megan and I got to chat with some great brides who had come to the museum. Some were already planning on having their wedding there, others were getting a feel for the place. I am sure after this fun night, the choice would be easy!

Our booth was located next to Jessica of Jessica Arden Photography! She’s a good friend of Makeup for Your Day and a very talented photographer from Durham!

Bridal Show Month: The Rickhouse

February is Bridal Show Month at Makeup for Your Day and I will be documenting all of the shows we attended! We were invited to be a vendor at The Rickhouse in Durham. This show was fun because it was on Valentine’s day, so it seemed extra romantic.

IMG_20160214_113927

I really like this venue because it carries so much charm and history. We had a great view of the brewery! Megan and I came out for this show and we got to chat with some great vendors and meet some of the fun brides-to-be!

IMG_20160214_152552

We had our flowers provided for this show by Tre Bella and they were so gorgeous! I love the way they looked next to the brick background.

20160214_143920
Tre Bella’s Display at the Bridal Show

We had a great view of the big dance floor that The Rickhouse has. I feel like Durham brings out the unique creativity in people! At this event I got to meet Riley Mclean and see his tin types! What a cool way to take a portrait!

I will be documenting the rest of our February bridal shows this week! Tune in tomorrow to see where we went next!
