Choosing your vendors for your big day can be a daunting task. There are so many things on your check list when first starting out, it’s hard to know where to begin. We are loving this timeline that Wedding Wire has come out with to help manage when different vendors should be found and booked.
When it comes to hair and makeup, the earlier the better. Thus, why we love this time line. Twelve months or more gives you time to not only find the hair and makeup artists that fit your style and needs perfectly, but allows you to get in for a trial very early on so you can check off your list what you want your look to be for your big day!
We here at Makeup for Your Day, love traveling world wide to get brides ready. We’ve seen some pretty spectacular venues out there and look forward to seeing more breathtaking places for gorgeous ceremonies and receptions. For you newly engaged couples out there, be sure and check out this list to explore beautiful wedding venues in the Raleigh area as well as all over the world!
Hi MYD fans! Caroline Lucas here, reporting from Nashville, TN. I know you have been waiting on pins and needles wondering what we would be revealing this week and here it finally is! Makeup for Your Day is expanding to Music City!
Photo published in Southern Weddings Magazine with image courtesy KT Merry. Hair, Makeup and Styling by MYD.
Starting in Raleigh, NC and traveling all over for destination weddings we felt like it was time to branch out and explore new territory, and what better fit for our artists than the city that is known for its talent?
At Makeup for Your Day we are always looking for new inspiration, and even though I have only been living in Nashville for a short period, let me tell you, this city is full of it! From festivals and concerts, river views to mountain tops, not to mention all the great food, and growing neighborhoods – Nashville has it all.
So lucky me… I got the opportunity to use this Nashville launch post as an excuse to play tourist in my own city! Come along with me as we scratch the tip of the iceberg on this fun-filled city.
Like most things, to get started, first we need COFFEE! Okay so this might not count as a tourist moment… but can you blame a girl?
Barista Parlor is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods known as East Nashville. A little hip, trendy, and up and coming East Nashville is the place to find awesome food, craft cocktails, and off the charts coffee.
This, my friends, is a whiskey caramel latte and get a load of the DOUGHNUTS! One of each please!….*someone rolls me to my car. Looking at this all I can think is, “Where can I find a lipstick the shade of that pink glaze”? Talk about the perfect “subtle with a pop” color! That, my friends, is on our #mydbeauty to-do list!
Alright, alright, now that we’re nice and awake let’s keep it moving. Next stop… The Grand Ole Opry! This place is enormous. It was a beautiful day and good thing because you could walk for days and not experience this whole space.
My brain kept heading straight to all the amazing event spaces. The bridal photo opportunities were endless, and every where you turned was another great piece of Tennessee history. I cannot wait for this to be a regular spot for us. Seeing our artistry on a beautiful Opry bride seems like a dream come true!
Of course, the trip wouldn’t be complete without heading out to Broadway…Nashville’s self-proclaimed “Honky Tonk Highway.” Downtown Nashville is always on. Walking down the street you can hear the talent streaming out of the famous bars like, Robert’s and Tootsies.
At Makeup for Your Day, we are known for all the work we do with our amazing brides, but we also do a lot with commercial shoots and head shots, and in a city like Nashville I have a feeling that is going to keep us pretty busy.
Doing hair and makeup meant for lights and stage can be a whole different animal – which is why we make sure to train all our artists and hair stylists on the varying components for each situation. We also make sure that we carry the best products for every situation.
Unlike a lot of people who migrate to Music City, I’m not looking to have my name put up in lights… but I sure am looking forward to seeing the names and faces of our clients up there!
So this concludes the first leg of our Nashville tour. But don’t you worry, there is a lot more where this came from. Our blog, Instagram, and Facebook are going to be filled with bridal inspiration, hair and makeup trends, and our travels from Nashville, Raleigh, the beautiful NC Crystal Coast and Outer Banks, and destinations worldwide! So stay tuned and keep an eye out on all the exciting things Makeup for Your Day will be up to.
We’d love your support in our new endeavor! If you have friends, family or colleagues in the Nashville or surrounding areas that you feel would love our luxury services, please pass our info along and make sure they let us know who sent them! And if there is something you would like to see or a place in Nashville that you find inspiration please leave a comment below. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Thanks again, and we will see you soon!
xoxo,
Caroline and the MYD Beauty Team!

February is Bridal Show Month at Makeup for Your Day and I will be documenting all of the shows we attended! We were invited to be a vendor at The Rickhouse in Durham. This show was fun because it was on Valentine’s day, so it seemed extra romantic.
I really like this venue because it carries so much charm and history. We had a great view of the brewery! Megan and I came out for this show and we got to chat with some great vendors and meet some of the fun brides-to-be!
We had our flowers provided for this show by Tre Bella and they were so gorgeous! I love the way they looked next to the brick background.

We had a great view of the big dance floor that The Rickhouse has. I feel like Durham brings out the unique creativity in people! At this event I got to meet Riley Mclean and see his tin types! What a cool way to take a portrait!
I will be documenting the rest of our February bridal shows this week! Tune in tomorrow to see where we went next!
February was Bridal Show month at Makeup for Your Day! We kicked it off at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show in Chapel Hill!
Jen and Jen at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show
Caroline, Abbey, Megan and I started our day by making over our two gorgeous models.

I had so much fun at this show because we come to the Carolina Inn several times a year for weddings, and it was great to see the place totally decked out. Several of our artists & stylists were able to come to the event to meet all of the brides that came out to the show.
Members of our team with Heidi!
We even got to hang out with Heidi Dawson, the director of catering for the Carolina Inn and a good friend of the Makeup for Your Day team. One of our resident stylists, Megan is getting married this year and was able to attend the show with her fiance, Anthony!

One of my favorite parts of bridal shows is the food! I don’t know that I have seen so many different food vendors in one place before! We had cake, pie, chicken and waffles on a stick, and there was even a s’mores bar. Yes.. a buffet where you could make your own s’mores. YUM! Jen and Susanne had to grab a cheerwine and donuts!
Tasty treats were available all over The Carolina Inn!
I will documenting all of the bridal shows Megan and I went to in the month of February on the blog over the next few days! Please tune in tomorrow for more!
We are extremely proud to report that a styled shoot we collaborated on with some amazing vendor talent from the Triangle was featured in Trendy Bride Magazine! Gorgeous hair and makeup for the models was done by our super talented stylist/mua, Kerri. Styled shoot concept by Michelle at Wedding Story Writer.
You can order your copy of the full magazine online at the Trendy Bride site. Great info throughout on planning your big day and super helpful articles like this one for the bridesmaids and other family members that may be helping to plan or throw showers.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this beautiful styled shoot. Please leave some love for Kerri in the comments below or give her a shout out on Facebook or Twitter!
1. Avoid Fading by Reapplying Blush Throughout the Day
Instead of that, layer different formulas and textures for longevity. For example, start with a cream blush and dust a layer of powder blush on top. This will work as a sort of setting powder without losing pigment!
2. Don’t Wear Bright Lipstick if You’re Wearing Blush
We love the look of flushed cheeks and a bold lip! Just ensure that you use shades that compliment each other. A good rule to follow is to stay within the same spectrum of undertones. For example, if you have coral lips, choose an orange-based blush like an apricot.
3. Pick One Shade that Looks Good and Stick with It
Pick a shade that scares you and try it out! If you read the reviews for Nars blush Exhibit A most people will talk about the fear of buying such a vibrant red shade, but almost everyone loves the natural flush that this color gives. How it looks in the package won’t always be the way it looks on your skin.
4. Only Apply Blush on the Apples of Your Cheeks
When considering where to apply blush, take your face shape into consideration. Do you want to elongate your face, narrow it? A blush trend is to blend the color up on the cheek bones and blend it into the hair line.
5. Never Wear Blush and Bronzer at the Same Time
This old rule has become less popular as blush and bronzer have become a sort of hand-in-hand duo. Apply bronzer in the contours of your face such as your temples, forehead and the hollows of your cheeks. Just be sure to blend well!
What are your breakable blush rules? Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or the comments box below!
Yesterday our Farm + Factory Styled Shoot went live on the Style Me Pretty website! We are so thrilled to be featured in Style Me Pretty and we were so excited when we heard that this post went live yesterday morning!
The inspiration for this photo shoot was from an old television show called Little House on the Prairie. Drawing from the show’s characters Laura Ingalls Wilder and her husband Almanzo Wilder we pieced together a soft and romantic look for the shoot.
Artist and stylist Jen B and Nikki created gorgeous updos and beautiful makeup that fit into the theme of the photo shoot, pulling inspiration from the classic show.
There were a long list of incredible people that came together to make this photo shoot such a success. A big thanks to the following vendors! In the fall, and at Christmas we shared some great palettes to get as gifts, to ask for as gifts.
Laura Mercier has released Secrets of Radiance Volume 5 which we think is a great collection for the summer. This set includes their best-selling illuminating foundation primer that makes skin look radiant. There is also a Caviar Stick in a pink shimmery color to brighten the eyes and a Lip Glace in a sheer pink that has the perfect glossy finish. This set also includes a beautiful blush and highlight compact to complete the look.
The Smashbox HEAT collection includes 4 trendy summer shades that are to die for! We love the super savvy and trend-setting colors that have great pigment and high-shine gloss all-in-one.
We LOVE these NARS nail duos. There are 4 different combos, but we love this banana and lilac duo. These are great sets to have for summer. You can use one on your hands and another on your feet, or you can mix and match.
This is such a perfect palette for summer and here’s why – it’s waterproof! You read right, these powders are waterproof. Tarte is known for its Amazonian Clay-infused products which are great for the skin. This palette includes Amazonian clay and features 6 new eyeshadows, a bronzer, a highlighter and a limited edition blush. We love the colors, and the case is so cute!
Benefit’s cheek tints and highlights are great to have, especially for summer time. These are perfect to pop into a purse or a beach bag. These liquid colors and highlights work great in the summer as a subtle pick-me-up that is versatile enough to use on the lips, cheeks and even the eyes!
In our Reader Request Series we talked all about our love for OCC as a vegan line. We think that this mini set is adorable. It comes in a variety of its most popular colors, but we love this nude set for summer. This set comes with OCC’s best-selling lip tar and also a nail laquer.
*All products available at Sephora
