Bridal Show Month: The Wed Tour

February is Bridal Show Month and I am documenting all of the shows Makeup for Your Day attended! This time we were on The Wed Tour of Raleigh.

This was a fun event because guests took a trolley between several different venues where different vendors were set up.

Makeup for Your Day was set up at the Merrimon Wynne! This is one of my favorite venues in Raleigh just because the bridal suite is so gorgeous!

I was in love with the paper crane display cascading from the center of the house! The entire Merrimon Wynne was glammed out with splashes of navy, gold and fuschia.

I spy our spread in Trendy Bride magazine which was shot at the Merrimon Wynne!

This was a very intimate event with only a handful of vendors at each venue. We had the honor of sharing space with vendors like Perry Vaile, Donovan’s Dish, Erin McLean Events and Bunn DJ company!

I will continue to document the bridal shows we attended in February on the blog! Catch us tomorrow to see where Megan and I ended up next!

Beautiful Bridal Headbands

We absolutely love when brides use hair accessories. We think they can be such a beautiful addition to a bridal hairstyle. From flowers, to beads and other embellishments – they are versatile and can be worn with your hair down, or in a beautiful updo.

Like what you see? Don’t forget to PIN IT! Would you wear a headband at your wedding? Let us know at the comments box below!

MYD Loves Classic Wedding Nails

Today we wanted to do a post on bridal nails. We did a post earlier on nail art (if you haven’t seen it, check it out here). We love when bridal nails and nail art are combined to create totally unique nail looks. Check out some of our favorite classic looks below!

Do you like classic nails for a wedding – or do you prefer more of a statement nail with pops of color? Let us know in the comments box below!

MYD Featured on Southern Bride & Groom’s Blog!

MYD is proud to be featured in Southern Bride & Groom’s blog for Candace and Marty’s beach wedding! We are always excited to share the news when weddings that we had the pleasure of working on get featured online and in print!

This was such a beautiful wedding to be a part of. We wanted to share these photos {courtesy  of Michael Moss} as a sneak peek to give you a little look at the images to come in our full post. Check back for our full post with more photos of Candace’s hair and makeup later in the month!

We think that beach weddings are so romantic! Would you have a beach wedding?

5 Common Mascara Mistakes

At MYD we love our lashes! We did a post about the lash extensions that we do, we did a post about how to get defined lower lashes and we also did a post about how to apply your own false lashes. So now we wanted to do a post about 5 common mascara mistakes that most of us have, or still do, make.
1. Putting on too many coats.
Most people like to apply 2-3 coats of mascara to build a darker, thicker and more volumized look. If you apply too many coats, or if you wait for it to dry too long between coats then you can get a really clumpy look that will start flaking throughout the day.

2. Keeping it too long.
If you juggle a couple mascara tubes at a time then it is easy to loose track of how long you’ve had it for. Pro Tip! Use labels, such as mailing labels to write the date you purchased, or the date that you should discard your mascara. (This works great for other cosmetics as well!)
3. Pumping the wand in the tube.
Sometimes it just happens, but if you ever catch yourself zoning out and pumping your mascara wand in the tube, then stop yourself! This pushes air into the tube and helps any germs in your mascara tubes move and multiply. This will cause the bacteria to grow faster in your mascara in the tube and you will need to throw it out sooner.

4. Not washing it off at night.
Everyone has those late nights where you’d rather fall into bed than wash your face. This can be bad for your eyelashes and causes them to fall off, it can get on your skin and clog your pores causing your skin to breakout and it can also get into your eyes and cause an infection – so wash it off!

5. Choosing the wrong formula.
It takes some time (and wrong product purchases) to figure out what sort of formulas you will want for your eyelash needs. Some mascaras will be too runny and give you raccoon eyes, some will be too dry and flake and some just may not work for you. Know what your needs are, whether it is length, volume or curl and start testing mascaras until you find the perfect formula for you!

MYD Shares some SPF Tips

~ The best time to apply sunscreen is right after showering, or right before you leave the house. This is to enable the product to fully absorb into your skin to provide the desired protection.
~ Buy and apply a broad spectrum formula. This means that the formula will protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
~ Although we all love the “do-it-all” products, if your moisturizer or foundation includes SPF that is under SPF 15 then you should apply another product that is (at least) SPF 30. Do not apply the second product until the first is fully absorbed.
~ Reapply your sunscreen every 1-2 hours.
            * Experts suggest that you apply sunscreen under your makeup, so how do you reapply during the day if you have also applied makeup? Beauty experts suggest SPF powders. They will absorb oil and protect you from UV rays.
~ Although lips are on the face, most people don’t think they need to apply sunscreen to the lips like they do to their faces, but lips are also very vulnerable to sun damage. Apply a SPF balm under your favorite lip color, or find a lip balm that includes SPF in the formula.
~ Until recently, not much was said about UV damaged strands because you can’t get cancer from too much UV exposure to your hair. However, the UV rays can make your hair dull and dry. There are many spray-on SPF hair protectants and moisturizers that are great to spritz on before heading out. We also love summery statements such as beach hats to protect your face and hair from the sun.

MYD Answers a Reader Question: Product Recommendations for Dull Skin

At MYD we love our clients and our readers. Our Reader Request Series was really popular and we really enjoyed sharing some tips, tricks and our expertise with everyone. We wanted to remind everyone that you can ask us questions at any time.

Neera asks:

“I am looking for a moisturizer that makes my skin glow and a serum that targets dark spots. My skin feels dull post-pregnancy. Do you have any suggestions?”

Our top two suggestions are from Clarins and Eminence.

Clarins Brightening Serum and Brightening Moisturizer evens and brightens dull skin. Sea lily extract helps to correct dark spots and pigmentation. Over time darkness fades and reveals luminous skin. All of the products in Clarins’ brightening and pigmentation line work great, but we highly suggest trying samples before committing to a full-size bottle.

Eminence has a great new line of brightening products. They are the very first organic line that offers products that can achieve comprable results to hydroquinone cream. We love this organic line, their products do not contain parabens, sulfates, synthetics dyes petrochemicals or animal byproducts. You can order these products online or in spas that carry Eminence products.

Destination Weddings: Jasmine and Cliff’s Romantic Beachside Ceremony

We are super excited to be in Mexico this week doing a photo shoot, as well as the hair and makeup for panel members at the ISS Experience Conference.  It has been great to hear a variety of speakers and occasionally slip to the beach for a break!

That’s why we were inspired to write a post about destination weddings. We recently had the opportunity to travel to Montego Bay for Jasmine and Cliff’s beachside wedding at the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort.

Our talented artist and stylist Jennifer B was there to ensure Jasmine looked her best. The photos (courtesy of Fancy this Photography) looked amazing and so did Jasmine’s makeup throughout the heat of the day.

Are you considering a destination wedding? There are a numbers of reasons to choose a destination wedding over a stay-at-home wedding. Perhaps it’s the weather, the scenery, the romance – no matter what may draw you away to an exotic locale, don’t forget to bring some vendors with you.

Many vendors are open to traveling for weddings. On a day when it is so important to look and feel amazing, you don’t want to have to worry if your makeup is sweat-proof or if you will look shiny in photos.

You should still be able to relax and take in the romance and scenery. It’s the reason you had a destination wedding in the first place!

To see other brides that we have had the pleasure of working with in North Carolina, out-of-state and abroad – check out our Facebook page. There will be more to come about our trip to Mexico soon!
