Transition your Summer Beauty Routine into Fall Fabulous

As Labor day has come and gone and people are settling back into school, work and a fall routine everything can seem overwhelming compared to the slow-paced summer. Here are 5 tips to quickly transition your summer makeup into flawless fall looks, as seen on the runway!

Getting Skintimate

Dewy is out for fall. And so is flat-looking overly matte skin. Instead, there have been a number of products that have surfaced that provide great coverage, but still let your natural skin show through. Instead of looking too dewy, or too matte, these formulas provide the perfect balance.

Crimson Hues

That’s right cranberry, rust and crimson hues are in for this fall. These colors are definitely easier to incorporate with your fall lip colors, but it is absolutely stunning when used on the eyes! Red eyeshadow may be intimidating, but try dabbing a small amount in the middle of your eyelid, or blend well into the crease leaving everything else neutral.


No More Neutrals

The nudes, corals, pretty pinks and french manis are out! Three hot nails shades this fall include purple-greys, deep navys and greyish greens. We love the trend of earthy grey tones that are gracing the shelves for fall.

Sheer Pops

We love the deep hues of fall lips. The plums, maroons and deep shades are extremely sexy and feminine. This fall we are seeing a lot of sheer shades. Instead of full color, there are so many pigmented stains and sheer glosses hitting the market.

From Fruity to Full

A great way to transition from summer into fall is to change up your scent. Swap out our citrus and floral scents for deep, woody scents. The cooler it gets, the warmer the scent – it’s a great way to get settled into the swing of fall.

How to Use Colored Mascara

Although colored mascara may make you cringe thinking about it, many brands have released shades that can brighten your look, compliment your eye color and really make your eyes pop!
For green eyes, purple and plum mascaras will really compliment your eye color.
Hazel eyes look incredible with green and deep brown mascara.
For brown eyes, black and blue mascara will make your eyes stand out.
Blue eyes look great with golds and brown shades. 

 To ensure that your colored mascara isn’t too overpowering, stick to these tricks:
– Do not match your mascara with your eyeshadow. Keep your eyeshadow neutral and to a minimum. 
– Keep your other makeup to a minimum also. Your eyes will make enough of a statement.
– Black eyeliner is key. To give your eyes definition, it helps to line them with black liner.

6 Ways to Wear your Lower Lash Line

A while back we did a post on how to get bold bottom lashes, but we wanted to revisit that idea but focus on the lash line. The Beauty Department put together these great photos that show 6 different ways that you can wear your lower lash line.

August Covergirl Diane Kruger and her Retro Fashion Spread

Diane Kruger’s new cop drama The Bridge has earned her new notice and the cover of Marie Claire for August. We love this spread because it has a retro feel to it; from her clothes, to her hair and her makeup. 
We also picked up a little Bridget Bardot vibe in these photos – and we love it!
Diane’s dark winged eyes, and defined brows stand out and look smouldering against her gorgeous golden locks. 
We think that this would be a beautiful boudoir look! And if you didn’t see the blog post – MYD Loves Boudoir Beauty!
This is such a beautiful and classic look. We like how the hair is styled, but isn’t perfectly smoothed out. It has texture which looks amazing. We also loved her winged liner and beautiful brows.

Makeup Tips for Gals with Glasses!

Thanks to the fashion world, glasses have transformed their sole purpose of correcting vision to also being super stylish! We think that sometimes a great pair of glasses can be your best accessory and that girls should use their fashionable frames to compliment their makeup.

Mascara. It is especially important to do 2 things that the non-glasses wearers can get away with more easily. First, comb out those clumps! These can actually be magnified by the lenses. Secondly, curl those lashes! If you don’t they may rub against the lenses and smear mascara on them.

Concealer. The frames of glasses tend to cause shadows around the eye area, so be sure to brighten up with concealer. Especially if you know that you already have dark circles or puffy eyes. These will be easier to see and even appear darker behind lenses.

Cheeks. Put that blush on baby! We think that blush looks amazing on girls with glasses because it really brightens up the face around the shadows of the lenses. Don’t be afraid to wear a bold blush, even with thick-rimmed glasses – it is so stylish!
Lips. We love glasses with bright, bold lips. We think that is looks so modern and chic! 
Eyeliner. For the eyeliner to really stand out behind the lenses and frames of glasses, you can make the eyeliner darker and thicker. It may be a “bold” daytime look for someone without glasses, but with them, it really draws attention past the frames to your eyes. Also, we LOVE cat eyeliner behind glasses, it is a total MUST!
Eyeshadow. Try to keep your shadows on the warm side. Corals, peaches etc. This will look crisp and reflect the light behind your lenses. Some cooler shades can look dull and make you look more tired.

Eye Allergies? MYD Shares Some Tricks to Keep the Redness Under Control

Pollen season is upon us! Allergies are rampant and people are flocking to the allergy aisles of the nearest pharmacy. Some people deal with allergies internally, like sneezing and coughing, and some people deal with more external symptoms such as swollen, dry and red skin around the eyes.

Unfortunately there isn’t much we can do from a makeup standpoint for the internal allergy sufferers, but for the people with dry, puffy and red allergy eyes – here are some helpful hints for you!

Besides allergy medication, make sure to use a cold compress on your eyes. While the skin is still moist, dab some oil (we love almond oil) around the eye to seal in some moisture. You also want to ensure that if you put makeup on your eyes that you clean your eyes well before bed.

AVOID:
* Red-based eye shadows
* Shimmery eye products
* Heavy products
* Building product on too thick

The trick with covering up the redness is to first use a color corrector. If the skin is red, use a green-based corrector and pat it on. Some people experience more of a purple than a red in the skin around their eyes. If so, use a orangey-yellow-based corrector.

Once you pat that on the affected areas you can use a lightweight, cream-based concealer.

This is a great time to go for the glossy look. We love MAC’s Mixing Medium Shine. With this product you can make any eyeshadow glossy. You can even take loose pigment, make it glossy and apply it with a brush.

How to get Bold Bottom Lashes

Sometimes bottom lashes can be a little fussy and difficult to manage. We have a few tricks and a great tool to share with you to help you get the bold, bottom lashes that you’ve always dreamed of!
One trick that we love is to roll some product off of your mascara wand and use a small brush (above they use a lip brush) we think and angled eyeliner brush would also work well. Dab the product onto your brush and start applying it to your bottom lashes, concentrating on the lash line. This will give the illusion of fuller, thicker lashes and will line your eye nicely. 
MAC’s 205 brush is a perfect tool to help separate, define and evenly distribute product onto your lower lashes. This brush works great to comb through lashes and help get rid of clumps if you apply mascara directly onto bottom lashes.
This brush also works well if you put product on it and apply it to the lashes by wiggling the mascara from the brush into your bottom lashes. 
There are also “Bottom Lash Mascaras” available, such as Clinique’s version. These have smaller wands and bristles to help evenly apply product across the bottom lashes. 
And of course we can’t suggest tips and tools without mentioning that Q-Tips are essential. Especially when applying mascara to your bottom lashes which can be a little messy without a completely steady hand

Diwali Inspiration: The Best Looks for Golden Lids

As the holidays approach, we are inspired by the many holidays and celebrations that are going on around us.
On Tuesday, Diwali, also known as Deepavali, was celebrated as a national holiday in 11 countries. The translation means, The Festival of Lights. Many people decorate their homes with lights and candles and often candies and gifts are exchanged.

 We pulled inspiration from the lanterns, candles and fireworks that cast a golden glow everywhere you look.

When Fendi’s models walked the runway debuting the Spring 2012 collection, they also debuted a cool new makeup trend – gold leafing. This is a statement look can be achieved with gold leafing that is purchased in any craft store and glitter adhesive (we recommend using Duo Lash Glue for eye area leafing as it’s ophthalmologist tested and waterproof). You can try a number of looks (as shown above) eyeliner, full lid and just in the corners of the lid.
The golds, oranges and reds of this look are perfect for our Diwali-inspired makeup. This is a great example of how mattes can create a great look without taking it over the top. Had this look be done in shimmery colors, it would be less versatile and not a daytime look.
Gold looks absolutely stunning on darker skin tones. This gold eye makeup has such dimension and looks fantastic. A great way to achieve this look is with a cream eye shadow so that it has that ‘liquid metal’ effect.  We love MAC’s “Bare Study” and “Constructivist” for everyone’s makeup bag to create lighter, brighter metallic eyes as well as Constructivist for a darker, smokier metallic look.  For a high-shine metallic look in a liquid shadow we adore Chanel’s Ombre D’eau in “Delta” and “Torrent”.  
A less subtle way to achieve this look would be to use pigment. Pigment will look more shimmery, but can also look great. (See Below).   Pro tip: work on your eye makeup first when designing a look using pigments (or anything with glitter).  This way, if there is “fall out” (shadow that ends up in places you don’t want like under the eye or cheek bones) you can clean it up effortlessly using a little moisturizer and a makeup sponge.

One can only dream to have a holiday party where they can wear such an amazing look. The creamy texture of the black liner looks amazing next to the gold lid and golden brown pigment. Make sure to use eye primer so that the cream liner and golden lid don’t crease. The golden brown pigment looks fantastic as a brow low-light and pulled down onto the top of the cheekbone.
Lanterns and candles have a soft feeling to them. This look is a softer inspiration that is wearable anytime. This model’s fresh face and nude lips ensure that the focus is on the tame golden-smokey eyes. The inner-half of the lid is a beautiful golden color with hints of shimmer that meets a medium-brown matte color for an overall stunning look.

Hot Halloween Looks

Happy Halloween!

Sometimes it is difficult to decide what to dress up as. It is even more difficult to think about what you might already have in the house to help create a costume for less money. To help you out, listed below there are 10 items you most likely already have in your cosmetic bag that will help you create an amazing Halloween look!

1. Black Eyeliner.
This is a staple that can be found in almost any gal’s cosmetic case. There are a variety of types: pencil, kohl, gel and liquid. For Halloween, liquid and gel liners will be easier because they are generally easier to apply when trying to execute specific details.

Here are some great Halloween eyeliner looks that would look great with
some colorful eyeshadow (4) and rhinestones (2). 

2. Rhinestones.
This is a guilty pleasure for Halloween. Rhinestones are one of those things that, if used right, look amazing. Halloween is a great excuse to utilize them to take your look to the next level. Unfortunately rhinestones aren’t wearable for everyday, so take the opportunity to incorporate them in a fun way with your costume!

We love how Selena Gomez uses body rhinestones, they are a fun way to add 
some more detail and tie the look together. 

3. Pigment Powder.
Like rhinestones, pigment powder can add such dimension to a makeup look. Due to the drastic nature of Halloween and costumes, this is a perfect time to experiment with it!  If you don’t have pigment powders in your cosmetic bag, take an old eyeshadow and crumble it up to create more of a loose powder!  The color will be more pigmented and you’ll get easier (and wider) application.

Pigment powder gives lots of dimension to the eyes and can also be used on the body. 
We love this color scheme and the use of feathers with the pigment powder!

4. An Eyeshadow Palette.
You know when you are hesitant buying a palette because there are some neon colors that you will surely never use? Now is a great time to use them! You can use them on the lid and all over the face depending on your costume.

and go outside-the-box with colors and designs.

5. Mattes.
This seems general, but dig through your makeup collection and pull out your mattes in the shade range you will likely use with your costume. A good dark brown matte eyeshadow or bronzer can be your best friend in achieving many popular Halloween looks that don’t call for the flashiness of rhinestones (2) or pigments (3).

Matte nails, lips, face and eyes really work when trying to 
create some of the “scarier” Halloween looks. 

6. Concealer.
This is the one day a year where you can’t possibly be wearing too much concealer! It can help with a variety of things like cleaning up lines to make them more precise, for contrast and to “erase” the lips. Erasing you lips means that you can construct a new shape or build unnatural color on top of them without the natural reddish color showing through.

Although the focus is usually on the face and the costume, the lips can be a 
great way to add to your costume. 

7. Brushes.
Brushes are really important to achieve the accuracy needed in these makeup looks. Make sure that you have, and clean all of your brushes before you start so you have everything on-hand and ready to go!

The liner, shadow and contouring of this look is very detailed
and very precise, this sort of masterpiece can only be 
accomplished with the right tools!

8. False Lashes.
False lashes are always fun to wear when dressing up. Now, there are so many options besides the “standard” false lashes. If you have had your eye on some wacky lashes, work them into your Halloween look!

These lashes would look great on a witch or any other Halloween costume!

9. Eye Makeup Remover.
This is a staple product, and will come in really handy when experimenting with Halloween makeup. If you are using pigments (3), they can tend to fall and get messy, and for any mistakes made with the eyeliner (1) or eyeshadow (4).

This is supposed to mimic lace. If it was done in a variety
of colors it could act as scales on a beast! This very detailed 
makeup look will call for eye makeup remover when mistakes
are made.

10. Setting Spray.
One of the most important things to remember when you are finishing up is to use setting spray! This will help your makeup stay put and last throughout the night!

You don’t want to put in this much work for it to smudge!
