MYD Reader Request Series: BB Creams

We are so excited for our Reader Request Series this week. Each day we have picked one of your questions and asked our talented team of artists and stylists for their professional input.

Sherrie asks… “Do you have a BB Cream that you recommend? I want something that has SPF 25 or higher, but still has color and coverage.”

We like the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35. We love this formula, it provides great coverage but works as a light foundation. The creams moisturizes, primes, perfects, controls oils and creates a a beautiful, smooth finish.

Bobbi Brown’s BB Cream (SPF 35) is a great option. This formula includes water-attracting molecules that boost hydration, light-reflecting pearls that brighten dull skin, botanical extracts and caffeine to reduce redness and discoloration and peptides that reduce pores. This cream really is a multi-tasker!

We also would recommend Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream with SPF 25. This cream focuses on 3 main areas. It evens, revitalizes and protects skin. It softens lines, wrinkles and imperfections while revitalizing skin with organic kiwi extract. Finally, this cream protects with SPF 25 and filters to protect the skin against free radicals.

Clinique Age Defence BB Cream with SPF 30 is great. This formula utilizes antioxidants to shield and protect skin while providing UVA/UVB protection and smoothing out fine lines and imperfections. Like the other Clinique skin products, with this you can expect great quality and ingredients.

BB Creams are great if you are in a rush and need a quick fix to even out skin tone. We love BB Creams in the summer especially as you spend more time outdoors. It is the perfect tool to create a flawless face while offering SPF protection with other great skin benefits.

That wraps up day one of our Reader Request Series, thank you so much Sherrie for your question.

Check back tomorrow for day two of our Reader Request Series!

Fake It: How to Highlight and Contour your Face

Holiday Countdown – Day 9!

If done correctly, contouring and highlighting can look really natural and attractive. If done incorrectly, it can look really obvious and it won’t be very flattering. One of the most important things to pulling this off, besides the know-how, are the products. You want to make sure that you are equipped with the right products to make it look natural.

You will need a matte bronzer that is darker than your skin tone, but not too dark. You can use a powder or cream, and you will want it to be about 2 shades darker. This makes it dark enough so it is noticeable, but still light enough to be blended in to look natural.

For a highlighter, there are a variety of consistencies you can choose from. There are liquid highlighters, powder highlighters and cream highlighters. It doesn’t matter what you choose to use, as long as the pigments finely ground so that it is a subtle glow, not a glittery disaster.

Another thing to be aware of is if the highlighter has silver or golden undertones. Choose silver if your skin tone is on the cool side, and a gold highlighter if your skin is a warmer tone.

How-to:

Start your makeup routine as you usually would with a clean, moisturized face. Then apply your foundation and concealer as you usually would and set it with a powder.

Then take your bronzer and work it into the hollows of your cheeks. To find them, you can suck in your cheeks and do the “fish face.” Start by making a line from your hair line down to about 1 inch from the corner of your mouth. Blend in circular motions and bring the color up to your temples and down to your jawline.

Take your highlighter and apply it onto your brow bones, down the center of your nose and at the top of your cheek bones.

Then apply your blush and anything else as you normally would. And you will have your finished look with a highlighted and contoured face!

Check back tomorrow for day 8 of our countdown that will feature some holiday hair ideas.

Summer Bikini-Body Ready

Are any of you out there freaking out about having to get in a bathing suit in the next few weeks?! I am! Jeremy and I have our 1 year anniversary (so soon, right?!) creeping up on us the weekend of Memorial Day. We have planned a short trip out of town to celebrate (the rest of the moolah is going to housing stuff, yay!!) and of course, we will be by a pool at some point. So…aside from the obvious need to self tan so that I don’t scare all the little children by the pool with my ghastly coloring I need a little help with the leg and thigh department! 🙂 So, I have enlisted the troops!

I am currently using Clarins High Definition Body Lift from ankles to waist to help with circulation and tightening up the thigh area. I have found over the years that this product also helps to reduce the look of spider veins, too. It by no means gets rid of them…just helps to make them look less pronounced. This product is awesome if you’re going out in a skirt or shorts and need that immediate tightening effect, too!

In addition to the Clarins product I am seriously contemplating giving Bliss a go at my “problem spots”. I have seen these items in stores like Sephora, Nordstrom and Ulta for years but never ventured out to try them. What do you all think? Has anyone out there given them a whirl and are they worth the money? I’ll be so happy to hear from you! Here they are:
