Transition your Summer Beauty Routine into Fall Fabulous

As Labor day has come and gone and people are settling back into school, work and a fall routine everything can seem overwhelming compared to the slow-paced summer. Here are 5 tips to quickly transition your summer makeup into flawless fall looks, as seen on the runway!

Getting Skintimate

Dewy is out for fall. And so is flat-looking overly matte skin. Instead, there have been a number of products that have surfaced that provide great coverage, but still let your natural skin show through. Instead of looking too dewy, or too matte, these formulas provide the perfect balance.

Crimson Hues

That’s right cranberry, rust and crimson hues are in for this fall. These colors are definitely easier to incorporate with your fall lip colors, but it is absolutely stunning when used on the eyes! Red eyeshadow may be intimidating, but try dabbing a small amount in the middle of your eyelid, or blend well into the crease leaving everything else neutral.

No More Neutrals

The nudes, corals, pretty pinks and french manis are out! Three hot nails shades this fall include purple-greys, deep navys and greyish greens. We love the trend of earthy grey tones that are gracing the shelves for fall.

Sheer Pops

We love the deep hues of fall lips. The plums, maroons and deep shades are extremely sexy and feminine. This fall we are seeing a lot of sheer shades. Instead of full color, there are so many pigmented stains and sheer glosses hitting the market.

From Fruity to Full

A great way to transition from summer into fall is to change up your scent. Swap out our citrus and floral scents for deep, woody scents. The cooler it gets, the warmer the scent – it’s a great way to get settled into the swing of fall.

MYD Shares some Great Glosses

After last week’s post on Lime Crime’s velvet, matte lip gloss (if you missed it, check it out here) – we decided we wanted to share more glosses in a variety of great formulas and colors.

Bite Beauty Cinnamon Lip Plumping Oil

This unique gloss pairs the hydrating benefits of Argan Oil with the antioxidant power of resveratrol. This, with the subtle tingle and plumping effects make this gloss an incredible multi-tasker.
Makeup For Ever Aqua Rouge
This is an incredible product because it is both a lip gloss and a lip stain. The purpose behind this gloss was to create bold color with eye-catching shine without the heavy, sticky formula. As if that wasn’t enough, this gloss doesn’t smudge, transfer or fade!
NARS Satin Lip Pencil
With the right formula, lip pencils can be amazing products. A cross between a lip stick and a lip pencil, this product glides on easily with soothing nutrients and Vitamin E. This creamy, long-wear pencil is a must-have!
Buxom Full-Bodied Lip Stick
This lip stick comes in the most incredible shades and its formula contains hyaluronic acid which provides time-release moisture. This lipstick looks great, moisturizes and will plump your lips.
Givenchy Le Rouge
We adore the texture of this lipstick. It is a creamy texture that dries semi-matte which looks great in the bold shades it is available in. Not to mention that the the leather element on the lipstick cap – makes this lipstick so chic!
Yves St. Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine
These vibrant lipsticks have great lasting power and a beautiful luminous shine with a super-smooth application. This formula will protect your lips from free radicals and seal in the moisture.
What are your favorite lipsticks? We would love to know! Let us know in the comments box below!

Spotlight On: LimeCrime Velvetines Lip Gloss

Today we wanted to put a spotlight on Lime Crime’s Velvetine Lip Gloss. This gloss goes on glossy and then dries matte with a “touch-proof finish.” They come in two colors (seen below) on the left is Suede Berry, and Red Velvet is on the right.

These are great, affordable glosses if you are looking for bold, matte lips. Be sure to exfoliate and moisturize your lips well before using this gloss. Applying a matte formula to dry or cracked lips will only emphasize the dryness.
What are your favorite matte lip products – we would love to know!

Spring Trends from the Runway

Runway shows are a great way to tell what will be trendy that season. Whether it is clothing, accessories, swimwear, wedding dresses or hair and makeup. We love scouting runway shows for great trends. Here are some of the top trends that we found in designer runway shows for Spring 2013.
Stella McCartney’s models looks so fresh-faced and gorgeous. The look included clean skin, contoured cheeks, barely-there-blush, barely-there-brows, very light mascara and turquoise eyeliner on the lower lash line. This look is so fun and wearable. Because the rest of the eye makeup was so subdued, the turquoise is a noticeable pop, but it isn’t overbearing.
Spring 2013 for Michael Kors also included bright eyeliner. However, the application and placement was a little different. We think that this look is so fun and trendy for the runway, but this is not a very wearable everyday look.
Moving from the eyes to the lips, Jason Wu’s models all featured beautiful skin and bright red lips. These bright matte lips are a beautiful focal point on the face. The look works well with a defined contour and defined brows. We love this look for work, a night out or date night – a very wearable and very sexy look!
Gucci’s spring 2013 trends include a very 60’s “Twiggy” look. With slicked hair and middle parts, the attention is drawn to the dark, defined eyes and incredible lashes. The skin and lips are left clean and neutral to focus attention on the beautiful smokey eyes and false lashes.
The Spring 2013 show for Dolce and Gabbana was so interesting. The runway featured bold prints and a multitutde of colors, textures and patterns. This is why the makeup was kept relatively simple. The models featured a black cat-eye, a contoured face and coral lips and cheeks. We think the look was fresh and fun and perfect for spring.
We love these fresh spring trends for 2013. Besides Michael Kors, these are all beautiful, wearable daytime and nighttime looks. What Spring 2013 hair or makeup trend are you most exited about? Let us know in the comments box below!

MYD Shares a Great DIY Matte Lipstick Trick!

Today we want to share a great DIY courtesy of The Beauty Department. We love when there are ways to use existing products that we love in new ways. A lot of great lipsticks have a satin or glossy finish and this tutorial will show you how to take your favorite colors and make them matte!
Take a lipstick with a glossy or satin finish and apply it to your lips. Then, with your finger, take a powdered blush in a similar shade to your lipstick and dab the powder on top.
If you do not have a blush in a similar color to your lip color, then use a setting powder. Whether you use a loose or pressed powder to set your foundation and concealer, this is a great alternative to make your lipstick matte if you don’t have a blush that you would like to use.

Review of Maybelline Foundation and Mousse Blush and the Covergirl Lip Stain

So I tried the Maybelline foundation and it actually works very well! I mean, it’s not Chanel, Bobbi or even MAC for that matter…but it’ll do the trick if you’re looking to spend less and still get a quality foundation.

The Mousse Blush was alright. It looks great initially when you put it on but I found that the first day I wore it, it blended down so much that within a few hours I had no color. The next day I layered the mousse with a powder blush over top and it lasted my whole work day. It was a great color, too!

The lips left a little more to be desired. I used the pen which is the stain but it felt really dry coming out. It also turned a lot darker on the lips after it sat for the 2 minutes recommended. I layered the gloss over top and that toned it down a bit but I still found that it came off when I ate. It’s nice for work because I only have to touch up the gloss every now and then but if you want something that REALLY stays all day…this isn’t it.

I hope some of you found that helpful! I’ll keep dabbling on my Wal-mart and Target escapades (because it’s so much fun) and let y’all know what else I find out there!

The Look for Less!

In this state of economic decline I thought, hey, why don’t we try some cheaper products and compare them to the high-end departments store cosmetics we’re used to? I went shopping this weekend with my family (got to see one of my nephews and nieces, too!) and picked up the Maybelline Dream Mousse Foundation I have been seeing advertised on TV so much. I haven’t tried it yet, will do that tomorrow –this weekend was a total NO MAKEUP weekend, if you can believe that — and am definitely looking forward to it. The foundation was only $7!!! Whoa! That’s compared to my $50 something Chanel and $40 something Bobbi Brown. I hope it works out. My wallet does, too! Here’s what the website says about the foundation:

Why You’ll Love It

Liquid-mousse texture
Air-whipped formula provides skin perfecting coverage.

  • Smooth, 100% poreless finish with natural luminosity
  • Air-brushed natural perfection
  • Blends effortlessly for a flawless, air-brushed finish.
  • Oil-free, Fragrance-free, Dermatologist Tested, Allergy Tested, Non-comedogenic – won’t clog pores.
  • Safe for sensitive skin, good for all skin types

In addition to the foundation I picked up a Maybelline Mousse Blush and a Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain with Gloss. The Blush is part of that same “Dream” collection and I’m looking forward to trying out the texture since it, too is oil-free but will most likely work great on my surface-area dryness. I’ll let you know! Here are the blush and lip stain/gloss:
For some reason the blog isn’t letting me link to the respective websites that I am talking about so you can find these products at: http://www.maybelline.com and http://www.covergirl.com.
