Starting in Raleigh, NC and traveling all over for destination weddings we felt like it was time to branch out and explore new territory, and what better fit for our artists than the city that is known for its talent?

At Makeup for Your Day we are always looking for new inspiration, and even though I have only been living in Nashville for a short period, let me tell you, this city is full of it! From festivals and concerts, river views to mountain tops, not to mention all the great food, and growing neighborhoods – Nashville has it all.

So lucky me… I got the opportunity to use this Nashville launch post as an excuse to play tourist in my own city! Come along with me as we scratch the tip of the iceberg on this fun-filled city.

Like most things, to get started, first we need COFFEE! Okay so this might not count as a tourist moment… but can you blame a girl?

Barista Parlor is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods known as East Nashville. A little hip, trendy, and up and coming East Nashville is the place to find awesome food, craft cocktails, and off the charts coffee.

This, my friends, is a whiskey caramel latte and get a load of the DOUGHNUTS! One of each please!….*someone rolls me to my car.  Looking at this all I can think is, “Where can I find a lipstick the shade of that pink glaze”? Talk about the perfect “subtle with a pop” color!  That, my friends, is on our #mydbeauty to-do list!

Alright, alright, now that we’re nice and awake let’s keep it moving. Next stop… The Grand Ole Opry! This place is enormous. It was a beautiful day and good thing because you could walk for days and not experience this whole space.

My brain kept heading straight to all the amazing event spaces. The bridal photo opportunities were endless, and every where you turned was another great piece of Tennessee history. I cannot wait for this to be a regular spot for us. Seeing our artistry on a beautiful Opry bride seems like a dream come true!

Of course, the trip wouldn’t be complete without heading out to Broadway…Nashville’s self-proclaimed “Honky Tonk Highway.” Downtown Nashville is always on. Walking down the street you can hear the talent streaming out of the famous bars like, Robert’s and Tootsies.

At Makeup for Your Day, we are known for all the work we do with our amazing brides, but we also do a lot with commercial shoots and head shots, and in a city like Nashville I have a feeling that is going to keep us pretty busy.

Doing hair and makeup meant for lights and stage can be a whole different animal – which is why we make sure to train all our artists and hair stylists on the varying components for each situation. We also make sure that we carry the best products for every situation.

Unlike a lot of people who migrate to Music City, I’m not looking to have my name put up in lights… but I sure am looking forward to seeing the names and faces of our clients up there!

So this concludes the first leg of our Nashville tour. But don’t you worry, there is a lot more where this came from. Our blog, Instagram, and Facebook are going to be filled with bridal inspiration, hair and makeup trends, and our travels from Nashville, Raleigh, the beautiful NC Crystal Coast and Outer Banks, and destinations worldwide! So stay tuned and keep an eye out on all the exciting things Makeup for Your Day will be up to.

We’d love your support in our new endeavor! If you have friends, family or colleagues in the Nashville or surrounding areas that you feel would love our luxury services, please pass our info along and make sure they let us know who sent them! And if there is something you would like to see or a place in Nashville that you find inspiration please leave a comment below. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Real MYD Raleigh Wedding: Sydney + Adam

The wedding we’re about to feature is so full of pretty!  In an intimate residential venue in Raleigh, Sydney + Adam exchanged vows.  Jen B and Rachelle had a wonderful time working with Sydney and her bridal party on the morning of their wedding.  Sydney was glowing all day and we adore her loose, textured updo and smokey eye makeup!  Enjoy the photos below by Carrie Coleman Photography.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this beautiful Raleigh wedding.  Please leave Jen B. and Rachelle some love below in the comments or on Facebook and Twitter!

Real MYD Wedding in Greenville, NC: Megan + Chase

We love holiday weddings, but this one in particular is very special and near and dear to my heart.  Our bride, Megan, is actually a friend of mine that I’ve known since she was a baby…literally.  Her big sister, Jessica, and I went to elementary school on up through college together (Go Heels)!  Megan and my younger sister, Nikki, went to school together and were roommates at N.C. State, as well.

While I was sorely disappointed that I couldn’t be at the wedding at Rock Springs Center in Greenville to work with Megan personally for her big day {I WAS able to do her bridal portraits, though!} I am so thrilled that we had Brenna on site to pamper Megan + 10!  Everyone looked absolutely stunning with airbrush makeup and they all beamed in their photos by Dana Jo Photography.  Enjoy more below!

Even in black and white Megan is radiant!  Please let us know what you think of this beautiful wedding in the comments section below or leave Brenna some love on Facebook or Twitter!

Real MYD Southern Wedding: Andrea + Nate

Andrea’s wedding to Nate at the Sutherland Estate in Wake Forest, NC was simply beautiful!  We thoroughly enjoyed working with Andrea and all her bridal party to pamper them the morning of her wedding.  They were a great group of ladies and the laughter was infectious.  Check out these gorgeous images from AJ Dunlap Photography and let us know what you think of all the ladies’ beautiful updos by Jen H and Megan!

This is one of the sweetest pictures we’ve ever seen of a Father / Daughter First Look!

We love the “exit” photos best because they show how our hair styles lasted ALL NIGHT through all the fun these ladies had! 🙂
Again, please let us know your thoughts and leave Jen H and Megan some love on their talented updo styles for the bride and bridal party on our Facebook page and Twitter.

Real MYD Wedding in Angier, NC: Lisa + Wes

We are excited to feature Lisa and Wes’s wedding today at Barclay Villa in Angier, NC!  Lisa was so sweet and composed in every meeting and we just thoroughly enjoyed her calm demeanor.  We’d love to hear how much you love her textured updo and bright, clean bridal makeup!

Please enjoy these beautiful photos from the talented Catherine Ann Photography!

Please leave some love for Jen B and Maria who did hair and makeup for the bride and bridal party in the comments section below or on our Facebook page and Twitter!

Real MYD Raleigh Wedding: Katie + Nick

Our bride, Katie, was just beaming her whole wedding day!  She was such a pleasure to work with and we love her half up, half down hair style and clean, natural makeup that she chose while working with our talented mua/stylist Kristin.  We wish Katie + Nick the very best and look forward to working with Katie again in the future!

We hope you have enjoyed these images from A.J. Dunlap Photography and don’t forget to let us know your thoughts and leave some love for Kristin here in the comments or on our Facebook page and Twitter!

Dandruff? How to get to the Root of the Problem

Dandruff can be such a nuisance to deal with. Not only can it be itchy and uncomfortable, but it can also be very visible and annoying. Dandruff can be caused by a variety things including stress, build up of hair products, weather changes and hormones.
There are a number of products sold that deal with dandruff, but there are also some natural approaches you can take to help keep the dandruff at bay.
Brush your Hair Regularly

Brushing your hair has a variety of benefits including that it stimulates your hormone and oil-producing glands keeps the pores of your scalp open which allows them to breathe and retain their natural oils. Brushing your hair will also massage your scalp and evenly distribute oils to keep your scalp naturally moisturized.

Keep your Scalp Moisturized

If you live in dryer or colder climates, your dandruff may be caused by your environment. That is why it is important to keep your scalp moisturized. People who are prone to oily hair may wonder how to moisturize their scalp without causing grease

Get back in Balance

This may be the least pleasant suggestion (because of the smell) but this tip really works! Use Apple Cider Vinegar on your scalp. The acidity of this vinegar helps balance the pH of your scalp and breaks down the dandruff. It may smell unpleasant – but the results are worth it! Plus, the smells go away when your hair dries.

Heat it Up

Heat up some oil (you can use olive oil from your kitchen) and use a cotton ball to dab and rub the warm oil into your scalp. This will help remove any dandruff and get the oil right at the root of the hair. The hot oil will open pores and also lock in moisture.

10 Things to do for Your Skin Before Your Wedding

We get a lot of questions about what sort of preparation brides can do for their skin before the wedding. This infographic {courtesy of Simply Bridal} points out 10 important things that you should do to get, and keep, your skin in tiptop shape for the wedding.

Number 9 is especially important. At Makeup for Your Day our team of talented artists are equipped with high quality makeup with quality ingredients that will look and feel great on your skin. We think it is very important to have hair and makeup trials in case there is anything you want changed before the big day. This ensures that you look and feel your best on your special day!

MYD is featured on the Wedding Chicks Blog!

We are so excited to share that a photo shoot that we were a part of was recently featured on Wedding Chicks! This wedding blog is ranked top three worldwide, boasting almost 40, 000 Facebook fans and around 50, 000 Twitter followers!

We absolutely loved being a part of this shoot. We were able to work within the vintage theme and created the most beautiful curls and red lips. The retro pin curls, pink cheeks and red lips look amazing in the photos and give off a romantic, retro vibe that we love!

We were so excited to work with such an incredible team on this shoot, including Live View Studios, Ruche, Uncommon Gatherings Vintage, Linacucina LLC and Embellished Blooms

MYD Reader Request Series: Organic and Vegan Cosmetic Lines

Welcome to day two of our Reader Request Series! If you missed yesterday’s post on some great BB Creams, check it out here. We are so excited by the positive responses that we have been getting and we hope that you keep enjoying these posts.

Dora asks… Do you have recommendations for organic and vegan skincare and makeup lines?”

As more information comes out about the harmful effects and ingredients that some skin care products and cosmetics contain, it is important to know what organic and vegan options are available.

Lavera is a German line that is the whole package and then some. It is all-natural, safe, there is no animal testing, it is gluten-free and it is free of any harmful ingredients. There is no petroleum, no synthetic products and the list goes on! It really does. Check out an extensive list of ingredients that they avoid here
This company has won numerous awards and is endorsed by many celebrities. This company’s high-standards with ingredients and quality make this organic, vegan and gluten-free line an excellent option to try if you are in the market for natural products.
This line is not yet available in the state of North Carolina, but is available in a number of other American states. There is free shipping on orders over $50 in the USA.
This line boasts 100% natural, biodynamically-grown, organic, wildly-harvested products that have been working with mineral and plant extracts since 1930. Their website includes an extensive Ingredient Glossary and they also provide a list of their products that are, and are not, gluten-free
Dr. Hauscka considers their products holistic home remedies. They respect, not interrupt, the body’s natural rhythms and help restore balance. They have a unique approach to health and beauty and their products reflect this. We would definitely recommend trying a product from this line if you are looking for some natural products.
This line is available in Whole Foods in the USA.
Most known for their famous Lip Tars, OCC takes vegan and cruelty-free to the next level. They said that they wanted to “raise the bar” on the animal testing issue, and they have. They pledge to never use animal-derived ingredients including Lanolin, Beeswax, Carmine and a variety of others. This is impressive because many natural and organic lines will still use these.
We absolutely love OCC and we love Lip Tar. If you have never tried them we would highly recommend it. There are such a wide variety of colors, you are bound to find one, or ten, that you like and would like to try.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is available to order, or to purchase at Sephora.
That’s it for day two of our Reader Request Series. We love your questions and comments so keep leaving them! Check back tomorrow for day three in our series.
