Choosing your vendors for your big day can be a daunting task. There are so many things on your check list when first starting out, it’s hard to know where to begin. We are loving this timeline that Wedding Wire has come out with to help manage when different vendors should be found and booked.
When it comes to hair and makeup, the earlier the better. Thus, why we love this time line. Twelve months or more gives you time to not only find the hair and makeup artists that fit your style and needs perfectly, but allows you to get in for a trial very early on so you can check off your list what you want your look to be for your big day!
We here at Makeup for Your Day, love traveling world wide to get brides ready. We’ve seen some pretty spectacular venues out there and look forward to seeing more breathtaking places for gorgeous ceremonies and receptions. For you newly engaged couples out there, be sure and check out this list to explore beautiful wedding venues in the Raleigh area as well as all over the world!
Hi MYD fans! Caroline Lucas here, reporting from Nashville, TN. I know you have been waiting on pins and needles wondering what we would be revealing this week and here it finally is! Makeup for Your Day is expanding to Music City!
Photo published in Southern Weddings Magazine with image courtesy KT Merry. Hair, Makeup and Styling by MYD.
Starting in Raleigh, NC and traveling all over for destination weddings we felt like it was time to branch out and explore new territory, and what better fit for our artists than the city that is known for its talent?
At Makeup for Your Day we are always looking for new inspiration, and even though I have only been living in Nashville for a short period, let me tell you, this city is full of it! From festivals and concerts, river views to mountain tops, not to mention all the great food, and growing neighborhoods – Nashville has it all.
So lucky me… I got the opportunity to use this Nashville launch post as an excuse to play tourist in my own city! Come along with me as we scratch the tip of the iceberg on this fun-filled city.
Like most things, to get started, first we need COFFEE! Okay so this might not count as a tourist moment… but can you blame a girl?
Barista Parlor is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods known as East Nashville. A little hip, trendy, and up and coming East Nashville is the place to find awesome food, craft cocktails, and off the charts coffee.
This, my friends, is a whiskey caramel latte and get a load of the DOUGHNUTS! One of each please!….*someone rolls me to my car. Looking at this all I can think is, “Where can I find a lipstick the shade of that pink glaze”? Talk about the perfect “subtle with a pop” color! That, my friends, is on our #mydbeauty to-do list!
Alright, alright, now that we’re nice and awake let’s keep it moving. Next stop… The Grand Ole Opry! This place is enormous. It was a beautiful day and good thing because you could walk for days and not experience this whole space.
My brain kept heading straight to all the amazing event spaces. The bridal photo opportunities were endless, and every where you turned was another great piece of Tennessee history. I cannot wait for this to be a regular spot for us. Seeing our artistry on a beautiful Opry bride seems like a dream come true!
Of course, the trip wouldn’t be complete without heading out to Broadway…Nashville’s self-proclaimed “Honky Tonk Highway.” Downtown Nashville is always on. Walking down the street you can hear the talent streaming out of the famous bars like, Robert’s and Tootsies.
At Makeup for Your Day, we are known for all the work we do with our amazing brides, but we also do a lot with commercial shoots and head shots, and in a city like Nashville I have a feeling that is going to keep us pretty busy.
Doing hair and makeup meant for lights and stage can be a whole different animal – which is why we make sure to train all our artists and hair stylists on the varying components for each situation. We also make sure that we carry the best products for every situation.
Unlike a lot of people who migrate to Music City, I’m not looking to have my name put up in lights… but I sure am looking forward to seeing the names and faces of our clients up there!
So this concludes the first leg of our Nashville tour. But don’t you worry, there is a lot more where this came from. Our blog, Instagram, and Facebook are going to be filled with bridal inspiration, hair and makeup trends, and our travels from Nashville, Raleigh, the beautiful NC Crystal Coast and Outer Banks, and destinations worldwide! So stay tuned and keep an eye out on all the exciting things Makeup for Your Day will be up to.
We’d love your support in our new endeavor! If you have friends, family or colleagues in the Nashville or surrounding areas that you feel would love our luxury services, please pass our info along and make sure they let us know who sent them! And if there is something you would like to see or a place in Nashville that you find inspiration please leave a comment below. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Thanks again, and we will see you soon!
xoxo,
Caroline and the MYD Beauty Team!

February is Bridal Show Month at Makeup for Your Day and I will be documenting all of the shows we attended! We were invited to be a vendor at The Rickhouse in Durham. This show was fun because it was on Valentine’s day, so it seemed extra romantic.
I really like this venue because it carries so much charm and history. We had a great view of the brewery! Megan and I came out for this show and we got to chat with some great vendors and meet some of the fun brides-to-be!
We had our flowers provided for this show by Tre Bella and they were so gorgeous! I love the way they looked next to the brick background.
Tre Bella’s Display at the Bridal Show
We had a great view of the big dance floor that The Rickhouse has. I feel like Durham brings out the unique creativity in people! At this event I got to meet Riley Mclean and see his tin types! What a cool way to take a portrait!
I will be documenting the rest of our February bridal shows this week! Tune in tomorrow to see where we went next!
Senior portraits are a great opportunity to get photos that you can give to your friends before graduation, and that you can keep forever. Senior portraits are also a great time to have your hair and makeup done professionally to ensure that you look flawless in photos.
At Makeup for Your Day, we partner with photographers to ensure a natural and polished look that captures the unique personality of each senior.
There was an awesome and incredibly talented team working with Samantha Jayne for her senior portraits. Makeup for Your Day’s talented artist and stylist Kristin worked with Samantha Jayne to give her the beautiful and natural look that she wanted. Stephanie Spencer was there to capture her personality throughout the day for the beautiful photos that you see below.
Not only is it a fun experience to be pampered and look and feel great infront of the camera, but it is also so rewarding to have beautiful and timeless photos that you will enjoy forever!
Welcome to day two of our Reader Request Series! If you missed yesterday’s post on some great BB Creams, check it out here. We are so excited by the positive responses that we have been getting and we hope that you keep enjoying these posts. Dora asks… “Do you have recommendations for organic and vegan skincare and makeup lines?” As more information comes out about the harmful effects and ingredients that some skin care products and cosmetics contain, it is important to know what organic and vegan options are available.
Lavera is a German line that is the whole package and then some. It is all-natural, safe, there is no animal testing, it is gluten-free and it is free of any harmful ingredients. There is no petroleum, no synthetic products and the list goes on! It really does. Check out an extensive list of ingredients that they avoid here.
This company has won numerous awards and is endorsed by many celebrities. This company’s high-standards with ingredients and quality make this organic, vegan and gluten-free line an excellent option to try if you are in the market for natural products.
This line is not yet available in the state of North Carolina, but is available in a number of other American states. There is free shipping on orders over $50 in the USA.
This line boasts 100% natural, biodynamically-grown, organic, wildly-harvested products that have been working with mineral and plant extracts since 1930. Their website includes an extensive Ingredient Glossary and they also provide a list of their products that are, and are not, gluten-free.
Dr. Hauscka considers their products holistic home remedies. They respect, not interrupt, the body’s natural rhythms and help restore balance. They have a unique approach to health and beauty and their products reflect this. We would definitely recommend trying a product from this line if you are looking for some natural products.
This line is available in Whole Foods in the USA.
Most known for their famous Lip Tars, OCC takes vegan and cruelty-free to the next level. They said that they wanted to “raise the bar” on the animal testing issue, and they have. They pledge to never use animal-derived ingredients including Lanolin, Beeswax, Carmine and a variety of others. This is impressive because many natural and organic lines will still use these.
We absolutely love OCC and we love Lip Tar. If you have never tried them we would highly recommend it. There are such a wide variety of colors, you are bound to find one, or ten, that you like and would like to try.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is available to order, or to purchase at Sephora.
That’s it for day two of our Reader Request Series. We love your questions and comments so keep leaving them! Check back tomorrow for day three in our series.
Warmer weather provides a great opportunity to experiment with a variety of cute updos. Why not go back to the basics with a ponytail? There are so many great ways to dress up, dress down and make a ponytail unique.
We love the teased pony. This is a very feminine, yet sexy take on the ponytail. It can be chic and adds a little oomph to a standard ponytail. This is a great polished look for work or a night out with the girls.
The wrap around ponytail can be done in a variety of ways. It can be twisted, braided or just wrapped normally. This is a great way to take a ponytail to the next level without doing a whole lot. Ponytails can be viewed as a “lazy” hairstyle. We don’t think so – especially if you try a wrap around!
We love the laid-back look of the loose, undone side ponytail. They can be worn tighter and neater, but for a weekend look, we love the piecey, loose, textured look. This is also a great look for the beach, picnics or any other summery outdoor activities.
What are your go-to summer hairstyles – we would love to know!
Today is the last day to submit questions for our Reader Request Series that starts next week! We have got some great questions and we can’t wait to share the answers with you. It isn’t too late to submit your hair, makeup, styling or how-to question. Just leave it in the comments box below!
Justin and Bernie had a beautiful fall wedding in the mountains of North Carolina outside Asheville at Castle Ladyhawke. The scenery and the ceremony were beautiful. All of the leaves were changing to gorgeous browns and golds, but a fall wedding doesn’t mean you have to use fall colors for your makeup.
The talented Jennifer B headed to Asheville and Tuckasegee as the artist and stylist on scene for Bernie and her bridal party. She started the day with the Kett airbrush for flawless skin and tattoo coverage. If you haven’t had a chance to see what the Kett airbrush can accomplish for coverup and flawless skin, check out our post here.
Bernie was such a fun bride to work with. She requested hot pink eyeshadow for her wedding day. We used purple for depth in the crease with the hot pink lid, and then finished off with some loose pink pigment from Inglot.
For her hair, Bernie had a sequin flower hair accessory that looked beautiful. Along with the makeup and the stunning dress, all of the elements came together to give her that “Wow”look. {Photos courtesy Kevin Milz Photography}
Congratulations to Bernie and Justin, thank you for letting us be a part of your wedding day! To see photos of other brides we have worked with, check out our Facebook page. To be in the loop about where we are and what we are doing, follow us on Twitter!
Before the relaxation of the holidays kicks in, there is some stress you will need to overcome; parking lots and malls are a tizzy with people and grocery stores are enough to cause panic attack. This is why day 7 in our countdown is all about at-home relaxation.
1. Face Mask. – Take 1/2 cup of hot (not boiling) water – 1/3 cup of Oatmeal (mix them and then let them sit for 2-3 minutes) – Add 2 tablespoons plain yogurt – Add 2 tablespoons of honey Mix it all and then apply it to your face. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before you wash it off with a warm cloth. To make it feel like a real spa experience, put two cucumber slices on your eyes and listen to some classical music while you wait. You deserve it!
2. Foot Soak – 1 cup of milk – 2 tablespoons of honey – 1 cup of epsom salts – (and if you really need some moisture) add 2TBS of an oil, such as coconut, oliveo r jojoba Add all of these ingredients into a bowl. For a little extra spa sensation, put some stones or marbles at the bottom of the bowl and rub your feet on them for a massage.
3. Lip Scrub – 1 part brown sugar – 1 part honey – 1 part olive oil Lips tend to get chapped when facing the colder weather. Keep them moisturized and exfoliated at the same time with this DIY spa treatment.
4. Bath Soak – 1 cup of powdered milk – 1/2 cup of corn starch – 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint oil – Mix with 2 cups of hot water and then pout into the tub Baths are perfect in the winter, and the ultimate way to relax!
5. Hand and Body Scrub – 1 cup of brown sugar – 1 cup of olive oil – 1 teaspoon of honey – 1 tablespoon of coarse salt – Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil It is important to exfoliate all year round, but it is important not to dry out your skin. This oil-based scrub will help you get rid of dead skins cells with the added benefit of simultaneously moisturizing.
If you have a few minutes, make up your at-home spa recipe tonight. Put it in a container for safe keeping until you have more time on the weekend. That way when you go to unwind, your spa will be waiting for you!

Kate and Garrett were recently married at Fearrington Village. Makeup for Your Day makeup artist and stylist Danielle had Kate looking stunning for her wedding day. After her beautiful bridal portraits (courtesy of Krystal Kast Photography), Kate was confident that her hair and makeup would be perfect for the big day.
We have been inspired by Kate’s braided hairstyle and foreseeing it as a hot holiday hairstyle. This trendy style can be worn in a number of ways that work well on a variety of hair textures and lengths.
If you have long enough hair, doing a wrap-around braid looks amazing. You can wrap the braid into a low bun or a higher updo. It’s feminine but chic and can be both formal and casual. This is an absolutely stunning bridal hairstyle. It can be worn alone or with some great bridal accessories perfect for any type of wedding.
The classic side-braid has made a triumphant return. This look is usually less formal than a wrap-around braid that is worked into an updo or low bun. It is a more undone look that is casual. Take a page from Blake Lively’s hair stylist by pulling your hair into a sleek high-pony and then braid your hair. We love the contrast of the sleek pony and the teased braid so it looks elegant, but not completely polished. It makes the look more youthful.
Will you being trying this hot hairstyle this holiday season? If you are looking for inspiration for other sorts of hairstyles to debut at holiday parties check out our Facebook page. We are always inspired by our brides!
Congrats to Kate and Garrett, the newlyweds, we had an amazing time working with you on your wedding day.
