February is Bridal Show Month and I am documenting all of the shows Makeup for Your Day attended! This time we were on The Wed Tour of Raleigh.

This was a fun event because guests took a trolley between several different venues where different vendors were set up.

Makeup for Your Day was set up at the Merrimon Wynne! This is one of my favorite venues in Raleigh just because the bridal suite is so gorgeous!

I was in love with the paper crane display cascading from the center of the house! The entire Merrimon Wynne was glammed out with splashes of navy, gold and fuschia.

I spy our spread in Trendy Bride magazine which was shot at the Merrimon Wynne!

This was a very intimate event with only a handful of vendors at each venue. We had the honor of sharing space with vendors like Perry Vaile, Donovan’s Dish, Erin McLean Events and Bunn DJ company!

I will continue to document the bridal shows we attended in February on the blog! Catch us tomorrow to see where Megan and I ended up next!

Spotlight on: Clinique’s NEW Superprimers!

For anyone who battles redness, dullness or any other discoloration – meet Clinique’s new Superprimers. Many “corrective” primers have been popping up in the marketplace, but these are definitely going to give them a run for their money.
Clinique’s new Superprimers come in 6 different formulas (shown above.) There is one for redness, dullness, sallowness, discoloration, dullness in darker skin tones and a regular primer formula. These primers create a perfect base for your foundation and help to brighten and even out skin tone before the foundation is even applied.
The Superprimer also smoothes out your skin and will help your foundation stay true to its color and apply evenly. Once you apply your foundation and your concealer, set it all with powder and you will be set with a flawless face!

Have you ever tried corrective primers – what do you think? We would love to know! Let us know in the comments box below!

Hot Head: How these Celebs will have you Reaching for the Red Hair Dye

Red is the rarest hair color. That is why when you see someone with red hair you can’t help but stare at how bold and gorgeous it looks. Have you ever thought of going red? Due to the fact that red hair dye washes out and fades really quickly, it is definitely a high-maintenance hair color, but we think it is totally worth it for those drool-worthy, statement locks!

We love how many celebrities are donning this hot hue. Here are some of our faves!

Bryce Dallas Howard

Drew Barrymore

Lily Cole

Kate Mara

Florence Welch

Emma Stone

Amy Adams

Jessica Chastain

Lana Del Ray

Christina Hendricks

5 Common Mascara Mistakes

At MYD we love our lashes! We did a post about the lash extensions that we do, we did a post about how to get defined lower lashes and we also did a post about how to apply your own false lashes. So now we wanted to do a post about 5 common mascara mistakes that most of us have, or still do, make.
1. Putting on too many coats.
Most people like to apply 2-3 coats of mascara to build a darker, thicker and more volumized look. If you apply too many coats, or if you wait for it to dry too long between coats then you can get a really clumpy look that will start flaking throughout the day.

2. Keeping it too long.
If you juggle a couple mascara tubes at a time then it is easy to loose track of how long you’ve had it for. Pro Tip! Use labels, such as mailing labels to write the date you purchased, or the date that you should discard your mascara. (This works great for other cosmetics as well!)
3. Pumping the wand in the tube.
Sometimes it just happens, but if you ever catch yourself zoning out and pumping your mascara wand in the tube, then stop yourself! This pushes air into the tube and helps any germs in your mascara tubes move and multiply. This will cause the bacteria to grow faster in your mascara in the tube and you will need to throw it out sooner.

4. Not washing it off at night.
Everyone has those late nights where you’d rather fall into bed than wash your face. This can be bad for your eyelashes and causes them to fall off, it can get on your skin and clog your pores causing your skin to breakout and it can also get into your eyes and cause an infection – so wash it off!

5. Choosing the wrong formula.
It takes some time (and wrong product purchases) to figure out what sort of formulas you will want for your eyelash needs. Some mascaras will be too runny and give you raccoon eyes, some will be too dry and flake and some just may not work for you. Know what your needs are, whether it is length, volume or curl and start testing mascaras until you find the perfect formula for you!

Building an Awesome Eyeshadow Palette

We stumbled upon these awesome photos of Mac eyeshadow palettes {courtesy of Makeup Geek} and were inspired to write a post. These photos give a great overview of the colors available and is a good opportunity to find some eyeshadow shades that you don’t have and might want to try and add to your collection.

When dividing your colors into palettes, you can divide them by color groups, between mattes and shimmers, by neutrals or by what you use most frequently.

When placing the shadows in the palette, it is easy and more organized if the top row consists of the lightest colors which will work as your highlight. The middle row should consist of the blending shadows that are 1-2 shades darker. These colors work well as crease colors. The bottom row should be even darker and will work well on the lash line or the outer corner of the eye.

What are your favorite MAC eyeshadow colors? Do you see any here that you would love to try? We would love to know! Let us know via the comments box below, Twitter or Facebook!

MYD loves Summer Hat Hair!

Whether you are at the beach, by the pool, at a BBQ or just on the go – a great way to look good, keep cool and protect your face is with a fashionable summer hat. We prefer this look when it isn’t polished. We love the hair textured, loose and undone.
No matter your hair length or the type of hat, it’s great how versatile this accessory can be. Hats can be dressed up, dressed down and can make bed head look so fashionable.

We want to know what you think of this trendy summer accessory. Will you be sporting this laid-back style this summer? Let us know in the comments box below!

MYD Answers a Reader Question: Product Recommendations for Dull Skin

At MYD we love our clients and our readers. Our Reader Request Series was really popular and we really enjoyed sharing some tips, tricks and our expertise with everyone. We wanted to remind everyone that you can ask us questions at any time.

Neera asks:

“I am looking for a moisturizer that makes my skin glow and a serum that targets dark spots. My skin feels dull post-pregnancy. Do you have any suggestions?”

Our top two suggestions are from Clarins and Eminence.

Clarins Brightening Serum and Brightening Moisturizer evens and brightens dull skin. Sea lily extract helps to correct dark spots and pigmentation. Over time darkness fades and reveals luminous skin. All of the products in Clarins’ brightening and pigmentation line work great, but we highly suggest trying samples before committing to a full-size bottle.

Eminence has a great new line of brightening products. They are the very first organic line that offers products that can achieve comprable results to hydroquinone cream. We love this organic line, their products do not contain parabens, sulfates, synthetics dyes petrochemicals or animal byproducts. You can order these products online or in spas that carry Eminence products.

MYD Bride Kyla inspires Lilac Lids

Kyla was such a beautiful bride, we absolutely loved working with her! She requested a  beautiful volumized updo that was pinned back beautifully and had gorgeous mauve cheeks and lips. MYD’s talented Jen B and Beth were there to create Kyla’s beautiful bride look.

Kyla looked beautiful from head-to-toe on her special day. We especially loved her purple lids!. Want to try it, but aren’t sure how? You can make it as subtle or bold as you want. Rhianna looks great with the bold lilac lids against her darker skin tone. Rachel McAdams dons a more subtle look, but plays it up enough to make her green eyes pop.

Start by concentrating the color at the lash line and see if you like it as a subtle eyeliner. This can be a great way to incorporate hints of purple without being too bold. If you aren’t ready to wear this color out, try it before you wash your makeup off at night. This is a versatile and flattering color that looks great on many skin tones and with all eye colors.
Will you try lilac lids this summer? Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or the comments box below!

Trending: Colored Hair Masks

Last year, hair chalk was all the rage. Celebrities like Lauren Conrad, Nikki Minaj, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and others were seen sporting a variety of hues. Moving into winter months, the bright colors disappeared.
It is springtime again and we are seeing new innovations in semi-permanent hair color. As much as everyone liked hair chalk, it tended to be drying on the hair. Cue hydrating color masks in a variety of cool colors. Now you can multi-task and hydrate your hair while coloring it!
Available at Urban Outfitters.
We think that these can be very versatile. If you have dark brown hair and use a purple or blue, it can look trendy without looking too overwhelming. You can use the color to do tips, to do streaks or you can fully cover your hair. We definitely think that this is a fun summer trend.
What do you think of this trend – is this something that you would try? Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or the comments box below!
