MYD Loves Classic Wedding Nails

Today we wanted to do a post on bridal nails. We did a post earlier on nail art (if you haven’t seen it, check it out here). We love when bridal nails and nail art are combined to create totally unique nail looks. Check out some of our favorite classic looks below!

Do you like classic nails for a wedding – or do you prefer more of a statement nail with pops of color? Let us know in the comments box below!

Changing your Wedding Hairstyle Between the Ceremony and Reception

We love it when brides change their hairstyle between the ceremony and the reception! It is a great transition between the more formal events of the ceremony and the more laid-back events of the reception. Plus, it looks great in photos!
Many brides will start with an updo for the ceremony. This means that before the reception the stylist will unpin, recurl (if necessary), touch up and put on some more hairspray – and you’re good to go!

Another option is to start with hair down for the ceremony and pin it up for the reception and the dancing.  We love the look of these loose, cascading curls. Hair pieces, twists and braids can transition easily, and look beautiful, whether the hair is up or down.

All of these photos are from our Pinterest page, if you are looking for more ideas and inspiration – check it out
Would you change your hairstyle on your wedding day? Would you start with your hair up or down – we would love to know! Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or the comments box below!

Spotlight on Ciaté’s Unique Nail Products

Ciaté is a company that was started by UK-based nail artist Charlotte Knight. The company has seen great success with the invention of many unique, never-been-done-before nail product breakthroughs.

The company’s polishes, texture kits and treatments create the most interesting manicures and pedicures giving women the ability to have statement nails without going to a salon.  Some of their trend-setting products include:

Ciaté’s Paint Pots Nail Polish

These nail polishes come in a variety of highly pigmented colors and look stunning on hands and feet. Their polishes are known to be ahead of the trends when it comes to releasing new colors and are inspired by beauty, fashion and design to create new colors.

Ciaté’s Chalkboard Manicure Set

Start by applying the black matte polish to your nails and let it dry. Then use the chalk pens to doodle fun designs on your nails! The chalk will come off in water, but once you find the design you like, seal it in with the clear top coat and you are good-to-go!
Ciaté’s Very Colourfoil Manicure Set

This is an extremely fun manicure kit that allows for a creative, and incredibly cool, look for the nails. This look creates a raw foil finish, but includes a top coat that is so shiny that it will be unlike any other metallic manicure out there!

 Ciaté’s Velvet Manicure

This kit to the beauty community by storm when it was released. This kit contains and two-step process that will leave your nails with a velvet finish! This kit was inspired by the idea of layering textures that was seen on the runways. After brushing the crushed velvet onto your nails, you will know why this kit claims to be “luxury” at your fingertips!
Ciaté’s Sequinned Manicure

Don’t want the party to stop? This kit allows you to apply sequins to your nails which creates a fun and textured look like no other. Unlike other nail polish that tries to achieve this sparkly, multi-dimensional look, by brushing sequins onto the nail directly, it allows easy application to achieve this unique look.
Ciaté’s Caviar Manicure Set

Just when you thought it couldn’t get more crazy, the caviar nail kit comes out. Following the idea of luxury and texture for the nails, this kit includes pearlescent beads for a 3D effect that will turn heads. Although it is not real caviar, this look emulates the classy food and gives the impression of high-class opulence for your hands and feet.
*All products are available at Sephora.

Reader Request: How to Prevent Ingrown Hairs

It’s beach season and we have recently received a few requests to do a post on how to prevent ingrown hairs.

1. First you will want to prep your skin. The best way to do this is to exfoliate the area. You can use any exfoliating scrub or a stiff brush and buff the skin in circular motions.

2. Don’t skip the shaving cream! You will want to make sure the area is well lubricated to avoid razor burn and ingrowns. Don’t want to buy shaving cream? There are some interesting alternatives that you may already have at home – such as hair conditioner, body cream, baby oil and even peanut butter!

Pro Tip: One of the best ways to prevent ingrown hairs is to use a product with salicylic acid. You may have heard of it in face washes as it is a key active ingredient to help clear breakouts. Salicylic acid exfoliates, moisturizes and helps clear pores to help prevent infection.

Try something like Neutrogena Men Skin Clearing Shave Cream. Although it is a men’s shaving cream for the face, it contains salicylic acid to minimize breakouts and will help prevent ingrown hairs.

3. After you shave you will want to rinse the area in cool water to tighten up the pores. People who shave in the hot shower can be more susceptible to ingrown hairs if the pores remain open from the heat after the shower.

4. Finally, apply a soothing product with disinfecting properties. We love witch hazel because it is cost-effective and natural. It helps reduce swelling and irritation and contains antibacterial properties.

Don’t forget, you can ask us your questions at any time via our comments box, Facebook or Twitter!

3 Ponytails that you should Try this Season!

Warmer weather provides a great opportunity to experiment with a variety of cute updos. Why not go back to the basics with a ponytail? There are so many great ways to dress up, dress down and make a ponytail unique.
We love the teased pony. This is a very feminine, yet sexy take on the ponytail. It can be chic and adds a little oomph to a standard ponytail. This is a great polished look for work or a night out with the girls.

The wrap around ponytail can be done in a variety of ways. It can be twisted, braided or just wrapped normally. This is a great way to take a ponytail to the next level without doing a whole lot. Ponytails can be viewed as a “lazy” hairstyle. We don’t think so – especially if you try a wrap around!

We love the laid-back look of the loose, undone side ponytail. They can be worn tighter and neater, but for a weekend look, we love the piecey, loose, textured look. This is also a great look for the beach, picnics or any other summery outdoor activities.

What are your go-to summer hairstyles – we would love to know!

Today is the last day to submit questions for our Reader Request Series that starts next week! We have got some great questions and we can’t wait to share the answers with you. It isn’t too late to submit your hair, makeup, styling or how-to question. Just leave it in the comments box below!

The Perfect at-Home Pedicure – Just in time for Sandal Season!

Every year when the weather gets nice and warm there is that moment when you reach for your sandals and realize that they are not ready to greet the public. Winter toes warrant neglect as you spend many months in socks and closed-toe shoes.

We want to kick-off sandal season with some easy steps to get that perfect and amazing spa-like pedicure in your own home!
1. Buff your feet while they are dry with a foot file to exfoliate the dead skin. Focus on the heels, the sides of the toes and other places that tend to get flakey.
2. Fill a bowl with warm water and soak your feet for 10 minutes.
Added bonus: Add marbles to the bottom and roll your feet over them while they soak           for a massage.
Double bonus: Add an oil (olive, coconut, jojoba) to the water for extra moisture!
3. Once your feet are finished soaking, massage them to rub out any remaining dead skin cells.
Added bonus: Use an exfoliating scrub to help with this. Don’t have one? Mix brown sugar with white sugar and olive oil to make a quite DIY exfoliating foot scrub!
4. Gently push your cuticles back. If you do not have the proper tool, when your feet are still damp from the soap, gently massage the cuticle downward.
5. Cut and file your nails.
6. Use a rich, moisturizing lotion and massage it into your feet.
7. Paint your nails! Whether you’re a one-coater, a base and top coater, a clear polish or full blown nail artist – paint your nails so they are sandal ready.
Let us know what colors your will be debuting on your toes this summer! Will you be experimenting with nail art? Keeping them clear? Neon all the way? Let us know via Twitter or Facebook!
We also want to say a big thank you to our awesome readers who have sent in questions for our Reader Request Series that starts next week. We have got some great questions and we can’t wait to share the answers with you! It isn’t too late to submit your hair, makeup, styling or how-to question. Just leave it in the comments box below!

MYD Shares some Pinterest Faves!

Today’s post is dedicated to some of our favorite hair pins on Pinterest. Pinterest is a great place to explore and find different hairstyles for your wedding. Here are some of our favorite pins.
A very popular trend in wedding hairstyles is a twisted and pinned updo. These updos look incredible with embellished hair accessories.

If you want a more laid-back look, we love these loose waves and this ombre hairstyle! This would look so stunning with an embellished hairpiece.

Loose waves will always be a great option for a wedding hairstyle. To take it to the next level, consider pulling some pieces back into a twisted or braided crown. This gives your hair formal look while still maintaining the laid back look of wearing your hair in loose waves.

We absolutely love this hairstyle. It is so unique and beautiful. This would be such an incredible wedding hairstyle.

If you have straight bangs, this is a beautiful hairstyle. It is a great alternative to an updo, and looks so great with her veil and her earrings.

We love braids. They give a unique look and texture to a loose hairstyle worn down, and they also look great in an updo.

We love this loose, undone look with the viel. It is such a feminine and romantic look. If you are drawn to this sort of hairstyle, be sure to talk to your stylist about staying power, you want to ensure that your hair looks fabulous the whole night.

The word updo means that your hair is pulled up away from your face and your neck, but we also love when hair is pulled low on the back of the neck.

If you don’t yet follow us, or if you would like to see more of our pins, see our Pinterest boards here.

Kristen + James

Kristen and James were married in early October at the gorgeous Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC.  This wedding was absolutely stunning…just like the bride!  I love all the colors incorporated and of course I love the international flair from the groom’s family.  James is of Korean origin so his family is seen wearing the Hanbok.  They are so gorgeous!!  Here’s what I found about them online: “The Hanbok, worn today are designed after those worn during the Confucian-oriented Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). The women’s hanbok is comprised of a wrap-around skirt and a jacket. It is often called chima-jeogori, the Korean word for skirt is ‘chima’ and ‘jeogori’  is the word for jacket”.  So awesome!  In addition, how much do you guys love these parasols?!

Thank you Kristen for letting me be part of your special day!  It was so lovely and Jen and I wish you much love for your marriage.  See you soon! 🙂

All photos are courtesy of CHFotography.  Beautiful work guys!
