Megan and I had so much fun chatting with brides and their fiances about their upcoming wedding plans! We met guests who were just recently engaged and some that were just putting the finishing touches on their events.

Bridal shows are a great way to get to chat with vendors and see venues fully decorated. If you find yourself at a bridal show in the future, please make sure you stop by and chat with us! My favorite part of it all is meeting couples and sharing in the excitement of planning a wedding and getting to know them.

That wraps up our bridal shows before we enter this 2016 wedding season. We’ve got a lot of work to do catching up with all the brides we met at the shows this season! See you at the next show!

Bridal Show Month: The Wed Tour

February is Bridal Show Month and I am documenting all of the shows Makeup for Your Day attended! This time we were on The Wed Tour of Raleigh.

This was a fun event because guests took a trolley between several different venues where different vendors were set up.

Makeup for Your Day was set up at the Merrimon Wynne! This is one of my favorite venues in Raleigh just because the bridal suite is so gorgeous!

I was in love with the paper crane display cascading from the center of the house! The entire Merrimon Wynne was glammed out with splashes of navy, gold and fuschia.

I spy our spread in Trendy Bride magazine which was shot at the Merrimon Wynne!

This was a very intimate event with only a handful of vendors at each venue. We had the honor of sharing space with vendors like Perry Vaile, Donovan’s Dish, Erin McLean Events and Bunn DJ company!

I will continue to document the bridal shows we attended in February on the blog! Catch us tomorrow to see where Megan and I ended up next!

Jason Wu and Lancôme Collaborate for an Incredible Fall Collection!

We absolutely love when designers and celebs partner with cosmetic lines to create great collections. We were so excited to hear that Jason Wu has partnered with Lancôme for a collection that will hit the cosmetic counters at Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman in September!

Wu says that one of the main reasons he partnered with Lanôme for this project is because he believes that they do not impose a standard of beauty, instead they encourage women to embrace themselves and their unique beauty. Wu believes that the collaboration is “an embodiment of a truly modern, sexy, and confident woman.” – Cosmopolitan

In regards to the gorgeous fall makeup collection, Wu explains, “The inspiration for the makeup collection came from some of [his] favorite colors and combinations that [he’s] used in [his] collections. [He] wanted the colors to be vibrant , feminine and wearable.” – Cosmopolitan

Will you be using violets and indigos this fall in your makeup look? We can’t wait to see the full collection next month!

How to Get Perfect (and we mean Perfect) Brows

Do you ever wonder how people get those perfect, to die for brows? The Beauty Department shares an incredible tip to help get those brows looking beautiful! Use a wide-tooth comb to ensure clean lines that are even and symmetrical.

Hold the comb in place and use an eyebrow pencil to shape the brows at the inner and outer corners of the brow (see photo between steps 4 and 5.) Next, use a brow powder and an angled brush to fill in the brow, pressing the powder against the direction of hair growth. Lastly, comb the brows with a brow gel.
And you’re done! You will have beautifully even, symmetrical and perfect brows.

Changing your Wedding Hairstyle Between the Ceremony and Reception

We love it when brides change their hairstyle between the ceremony and the reception! It is a great transition between the more formal events of the ceremony and the more laid-back events of the reception. Plus, it looks great in photos!
Many brides will start with an updo for the ceremony. This means that before the reception the stylist will unpin, recurl (if necessary), touch up and put on some more hairspray – and you’re good to go!

Another option is to start with hair down for the ceremony and pin it up for the reception and the dancing.  We love the look of these loose, cascading curls. Hair pieces, twists and braids can transition easily, and look beautiful, whether the hair is up or down.

All of these photos are from our Pinterest page, if you are looking for more ideas and inspiration – check it out

Tame that Mane! Tricks to FIght the Frizzies.

Frizzy hair is caused by a number of things, including humidity, split ends, dryness, brushing incorrectly and using the wrong products. Once you understand all of the factors of hair frizz, it is easier to fight it to achieve a smooth look.

First the easy stuff. You have probably heard this said once or twice, but trim your hair every 6 weeks. This will get rid of the split ends and give your hair an overall smooth and healthy look. Another simple trick is to avoid brushing your hair when it is dry. You will want to comb your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers once you are out of the shower to help prevent frizz.

Choosing the right products is a big part of dealing with frizz and it starts with the shampoo. Many shampoos and conditioners contain ingredients that will dry out hair and cause it to be more frizzy – such as Alcohol and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Be sure to read the labels of your products carefully.

Dryness is something that almost everyone deals with at some point. Whether you color your hair, treat it or use heat styling tools often – you know how dry, dull and lifeless (and frizzy!) your hair can get. Using a deep conditioner once a week will help restore moisture and the the hair’s natural oils which will make the hair healthier and smoother. Also, using a heat protectant spray before styling will help lock in the hair’s moisture and prevent some (not all) of the damage.

What sort of products or tricks do you use to fight frizz – we would love to know! Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or the comments box below!

Spotlight on Ciaté’s Unique Nail Products

Ciaté is a company that was started by UK-based nail artist Charlotte Knight. The company has seen great success with the invention of many unique, never-been-done-before nail product breakthroughs.

The company’s polishes, texture kits and treatments create the most interesting manicures and pedicures giving women the ability to have statement nails without going to a salon.  Some of their trend-setting products include:

Ciaté’s Paint Pots Nail Polish

These nail polishes come in a variety of highly pigmented colors and look stunning on hands and feet. Their polishes are known to be ahead of the trends when it comes to releasing new colors and are inspired by beauty, fashion and design to create new colors.

Ciaté’s Chalkboard Manicure Set

Start by applying the black matte polish to your nails and let it dry. Then use the chalk pens to doodle fun designs on your nails! The chalk will come off in water, but once you find the design you like, seal it in with the clear top coat and you are good-to-go!
Ciaté’s Very Colourfoil Manicure Set

This is an extremely fun manicure kit that allows for a creative, and incredibly cool, look for the nails. This look creates a raw foil finish, but includes a top coat that is so shiny that it will be unlike any other metallic manicure out there!

 Ciaté’s Velvet Manicure

This kit to the beauty community by storm when it was released. This kit contains and two-step process that will leave your nails with a velvet finish! This kit was inspired by the idea of layering textures that was seen on the runways. After brushing the crushed velvet onto your nails, you will know why this kit claims to be “luxury” at your fingertips!
Ciaté’s Sequinned Manicure

Don’t want the party to stop? This kit allows you to apply sequins to your nails which creates a fun and textured look like no other. Unlike other nail polish that tries to achieve this sparkly, multi-dimensional look, by brushing sequins onto the nail directly, it allows easy application to achieve this unique look.
Ciaté’s Caviar Manicure Set

Just when you thought it couldn’t get more crazy, the caviar nail kit comes out. Following the idea of luxury and texture for the nails, this kit includes pearlescent beads for a 3D effect that will turn heads. Although it is not real caviar, this look emulates the classy food and gives the impression of high-class opulence for your hands and feet.
*All products are available at Sephora.

Reader Request: How to Prevent Ingrown Hairs

It’s beach season and we have recently received a few requests to do a post on how to prevent ingrown hairs.

1. First you will want to prep your skin. The best way to do this is to exfoliate the area. You can use any exfoliating scrub or a stiff brush and buff the skin in circular motions.

2. Don’t skip the shaving cream! You will want to make sure the area is well lubricated to avoid razor burn and ingrowns. Don’t want to buy shaving cream? There are some interesting alternatives that you may already have at home – such as hair conditioner, body cream, baby oil and even peanut butter!

Pro Tip: One of the best ways to prevent ingrown hairs is to use a product with salicylic acid. You may have heard of it in face washes as it is a key active ingredient to help clear breakouts. Salicylic acid exfoliates, moisturizes and helps clear pores to help prevent infection.

Try something like Neutrogena Men Skin Clearing Shave Cream. Although it is a men’s shaving cream for the face, it contains salicylic acid to minimize breakouts and will help prevent ingrown hairs.

3. After you shave you will want to rinse the area in cool water to tighten up the pores. People who shave in the hot shower can be more susceptible to ingrown hairs if the pores remain open from the heat after the shower.

4. Finally, apply a soothing product with disinfecting properties. We love witch hazel because it is cost-effective and natural. It helps reduce swelling and irritation and contains antibacterial properties.

Don’t forget, you can ask us your questions at any time via our comments box, Facebook or Twitter!

Spotlight on… Inglot Palettes

When it comes to building your makeup kit, there are certain essentials that you should have in your collection. The great thing about having palettes for your essentials is that there will be a variety of shades of what you need to mix and experiment with. Inglot has great palettes that we wanted to spotlight in today’s post.

Inglot’s palettes are great to travel with because on each corner there is a magnet so the top sticks on and you don’t have to worry about the top opening or breaking in a travel bag.

This is a highlight palette from Inglot. It has white, light beige, vanilla and peachy shades. These are perfect bases for the lid to build color on top of. These colors also work great as matte highlights for the brow bone.

A contour palette is another great palette to have. The two brown shades on the left would be great cheek contours, and the greys and purples are perfect for the crease of your eye. This will give your eyes dimension.

A blush palette is one of the best palettes to buy. This is because most people don’t experiment with a wide variety of blush shades. A color might look a little daunting in the packaging, but can look amazing on your skin. Plus, mixing blushes can create new colors that are interesting and flattering.
Shimmer palettes are great to have to give some dimension to your look. Next time you’re ready to walk out the door, put a shimmer eyeshadow on your finger and dab it into the middle of your eyelid, you will be surprised at how something so simple can make you look so awake.
Do you have a must-have palette? We would love to know what you love to use and travel with. Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or the comments box below.
