Lauren and Mark tied the knot at the beautiful Matthews House in Cary, North Carolina. Their sweet loved was captured beautifully by Nancy Ray Photography. We loved working with Lauren and hope you enjoy these beautiful images that celebrate sweet love!

Choosing your vendors for your big day can be a daunting task. There are so many things on your check list when first starting out, it’s hard to know where to begin. We are loving this timeline that Wedding Wire has come out with to help manage when different vendors should be found and booked.
When it comes to hair and makeup, the earlier the better. Thus, why we love this time line. Twelve months or more gives you time to not only find the hair and makeup artists that fit your style and needs perfectly, but allows you to get in for a trial very early on so you can check off your list what you want your look to be for your big day!
We here at Makeup for Your Day, love traveling world wide to get brides ready. We’ve seen some pretty spectacular venues out there and look forward to seeing more breathtaking places for gorgeous ceremonies and receptions. For you newly engaged couples out there, be sure and check out this list to explore beautiful wedding venues in the Raleigh area as well as all over the world!
There is nothing like a little competition to get the creative mind going! This month I was fortunate enough to attend a National Association of Catering and Events’ (NACE) meeting. Each meeting has a different subject and theme, however this specific event was designed to talk about PR Strategy and how to utilize styled shoots for your creative business. A styled shoot is how vendors are able to collaborate together to market and showcase their services. These styled shoots often end up on blogs, in print and on marketing literature.
{Featured Expert Panel: Robyn Mangrum and Maureen Powell of Weddings Magazine and Jenna and Donna Parks of Southern Bride & Groom Magazine}
What better way to show what these vendors learned by throwing them right into a competition! The groups were split into three teams that were asked to choose from several different elements and create a themed styled shoot. There were floral arrangements, props, models and outfits for a Bohemian, Romantic and High Fashion look. As a stylist, I had so much fun working with my fellow artists to create these looks with our models. Makeup and hair can truly transform the mood you are looking to create.
Some of our MYD Beauty Team with the Models {Megan S, Kelsi, Verronica, Megan A, and Valentina}
The teams all had such different ways of putting together the same concept. Our Romantic model is wearing a soft low chignon with a soft classic bridal look.
It was interesting to note that this team chose the Romantic model for their bohemian look! That floral headpiece really changes the whole feel of this look!
We had so much fun putting together the High Fashion look! Its not everyday you get to break out your green and blue eyeshadows. I believe this look was inspired by a peacock. The models brilliant eyes just wear this look so well!
The bohemian shoot by Fancy This Photography ended up winning the competition for Southern Bride & Groom magazine! You can see more images and details from this winning team over on Southern Bride & Groom’s blog feature. The winning photographer for Weddings magazine was Red Bridge Photography for the romantic same-sex couple shoot.
We so enjoyed styling the guys for the shoot, as well. There’s more to male grooming before they get in front of the camera than you think! This winning shoot is featured on the Weddings magazine blog here and we encourage you to hop over and check it out.
Styled shoots are all about putting different elements together to create a cohesive look. Hair and makeup is such a huge part of this as it can affect the overall outcome. You can see more photos and read more about the event on Southern Bride & Grooms blog.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on these shoots and any ideas for upcoming styled shoots we have in the works! Tell us what you’d love to see more of or maybe what you think you’ve officially had your fill of. Leave us a comment below to share your thoughts and follow along with us on Instagram, Snap Chat and Facebook to see everything our team is up to in the upcoming weeks.
xoxo,
Kelsi

February is Bridal Show Month for Makeup for Your Day! Our final bridal show for February was back in Durham at The Cookery! This venue is also historic and has a very unique and urban feel to it.
Megan and I at the Cookery!
This event had a live band and the guests were encouraged to visit every vendor for a chance to enter a raffle!

Megan and I had so much fun chatting with brides and their fiances about their upcoming wedding plans! We met guests who were just recently engaged and some that were just putting the finishing touches on their events.

Bridal shows are a great way to get to chat with vendors and see venues fully decorated. If you find yourself at a bridal show in the future, please make sure you stop by and chat with us! My favorite part of it all is meeting couples and sharing in the excitement of planning a wedding and getting to know them.

That wraps up our bridal shows before we enter this 2016 wedding season. We’ve got a lot of work to do catching up with all the brides we met at the shows this season! See you at the next show! -Kelsi
February is Bridal Show Month and I am documenting all of the shows Makeup for Your Day attended! This time we were on The Wed Tour of Raleigh.
This was a fun event because guests took a trolley between several different venues where different vendors were set up.
Makeup for Your Day was set up at the Merrimon Wynne! This is one of my favorite venues in Raleigh just because the bridal suite is so gorgeous!
I was in love with the paper crane display cascading from the center of the house! The entire Merrimon Wynne was glammed out with splashes of navy, gold and fuschia.
I spy our spread in Trendy Bride magazine which was shot at the Merrimon Wynne!
This was a very intimate event with only a handful of vendors at each venue. We had the honor of sharing space with vendors like Perry Vaile, Donovan’s Dish, Erin McLean Events and Bunn DJ company!
I will continue to document the bridal shows we attended in February on the blog! Catch us tomorrow to see where Megan and I ended up next!
February is Bridal Show Month at Makeup for Your Day and I will be documenting all of the shows we attended! We were invited to be a vendor at The Rickhouse in Durham. This show was fun because it was on Valentine’s day, so it seemed extra romantic.
I really like this venue because it carries so much charm and history. We had a great view of the brewery! Megan and I came out for this show and we got to chat with some great vendors and meet some of the fun brides-to-be!
We had our flowers provided for this show by Tre Bella and they were so gorgeous! I love the way they looked next to the brick background.
Tre Bella’s Display at the Bridal Show
We had a great view of the big dance floor that The Rickhouse has. I feel like Durham brings out the unique creativity in people! At this event I got to meet Riley Mclean and see his tin types! What a cool way to take a portrait!
I will be documenting the rest of our February bridal shows this week! Tune in tomorrow to see where we went next!
February was Bridal Show month at Makeup for Your Day! We kicked it off at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show in Chapel Hill!
Jen and Jen at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show
Caroline, Abbey, Megan and I started our day by making over our two gorgeous models.
Models at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show. Hair and Makeup by Makeup for Your Day. Dresses provided by Tre Bella.
I had so much fun at this show because we come to the Carolina Inn several times a year for weddings, and it was great to see the place totally decked out. Several of our artists & stylists were able to come to the event to meet all of the brides that came out to the show.
Members of our team with Heidi!
We even got to hang out with Heidi Dawson, the director of catering for the Carolina Inn and a good friend of the Makeup for Your Day team. One of our resident stylists, Megan is getting married this year and was able to attend the show with her fiance, Anthony!
Anthony and Megan at the Carolina Inn
One of my favorite parts of bridal shows is the food! I don’t know that I have seen so many different food vendors in one place before! We had cake, pie, chicken and waffles on a stick, and there was even a s’mores bar. Yes.. a buffet where you could make your own s’mores. YUM! Jen and Susanne had to grab a cheerwine and donuts!
Tasty treats were available all over The Carolina Inn!
I will documenting all of the bridal shows Megan and I went to in the month of February on the blog over the next few days! Please tune in tomorrow for more!
We can’t hold it in any longer…bursting from the seams, singing from the rooftops, dancing in the rain. You get the picture. We are extremely giddy and honored to be featured on GRACE ORMONDE today with the likes of the very talented Renee Sprink Photography and a slew of other amazing vendors that helped style a beautiful CHANEL inspired shoot. We were so thrilled to get the call from Renee to collaborate on the perfect and classic CHANEL color story for the beauty look for the model. How in love are you with that sultry eye and bright pink lip?! Of course, Miss United States – Elizabeth Safrit, looks stunning without a stitch of makeup and not one curl around the wand, we think we dolled her up just perfectly for this type of inspirational work. {Hair and makeup by Jen B. (me, eek!)}
Enjoy this snippet from GRACE ORMONDE and check out the full gallery by clicking on the photo. Check back soon for more of our favorites from this shoot. Believe us…GOW only touched on a few of the beauties that came out of this CHANEL IN THE CITY shoot!
We have the pleasure of working with so much talent on a daily basis. There is a constant source of inspiration amongst our diverse group of hair stylists and makeup artists. You can see our regular updates on hair and makeup that we’re creating through our Instagram and Facebook pages but we thought we’d post some of our work from the second half of 2014 here…you know, for “Pinspiration“, too! Please let us know your thoughts on your favorites. Our team loves all the feedback!
We absolutely love when designers and celebs partner with cosmetic lines to create great collections. We were so excited to hear that Jason Wu has partnered with Lancôme for a collection that will hit the cosmetic counters at Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman in September!
Wu says that one of the main reasons he partnered with Lanôme for this project is because he believes that they do not impose a standard of beauty, instead they encourage women to embrace themselves and their unique beauty. Wu believes that the collaboration is “an embodiment of a truly modern, sexy, and confident woman.” – Cosmopolitan
In regards to the gorgeous fall makeup collection, Wu explains, “The inspiration for the makeup collection came from some of [his] favorite colors and combinations that [he’s] used in [his] collections. [He] wanted the colors to be vibrant , feminine and wearable.” – Cosmopolitan
Will you be using violets and indigos this fall in your makeup look? We can’t wait to see the full collection next month!
